Ancient Rome. Lot of Five Mostly Julio-Claudian Silver Coins, c. 49 BC. - 69 AD. Again, a decent starter set of the "Twelve Caesars" for the beginner. Included are 2 Denarii of Julius Caesar, d. 44 BC: Italian mint, c. 49 BC., Elephant / Sacrificial implements (RSC 49); along with, African mint, c. 46 BC., Venus head right / Aeneas and Anchises (BMCRR 31). Also, Augustus, 27 BC.-14 AD., Denarius of Lugdunum: Laureate head right / Caius and Lucius Caesars, arms between (RSC 43c). Tiberius, 14-37 AD, "Tribute Penny" (RSC 16). Lastly, a Denarius of Galba, 68-69 AD.: Laureate head right / Livia standing left (RIC 186; RSC 55). The elephant Caesar with minor banker's mark at edge. The Venus portrait of pretty style. Metal of Augustus and Tiberius a little granular, the Tiberius more so (also deeply toned). Lot of 5 coins. Three coins average Fine, two about Very fine.
