Septimius Severus, 193-211 AD. AE 36 mm., of Ilium, Troas. Rare. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Severus right. Reverse: Hector, in military attire, in fast biga left, holding shield and spear, and brandishing stone in raised arm; below, [I]ΛIEΩN. BMC --; von Aulock --; SNG Cop --, but cf. no. 430, for Macrinus. Bold strike, on impressively large flan. Light smoothing to the fine black-green, dark olive, and red-brown patina. Exhuberant provincial art. Extremely Fine / Very Fine.
