Ancient Greece. Lot of Seven AR Coins, Mostly Tetradrachms, c. 525 BC. - 50 AD. Nice varied lot. Items worth looking at. Included are two Tetradrachms of Alexander III, of Macedon, 336-323 BC., one of Babylon, the other Macedon: Head of Herakles right / Zeus enthroned left. Plus, Athens, after 393 BC.: of usual type (SNG Cop. 63). Also a Tetradrachm of perhaps Gotarzes II, 40-51 AD.: Bearded and diademed bust left / Tyche offering palm to King. Also a Stater of Aegina, c. 525-500 BC.: Sea turtle / "Union Jack" incuse (cf. SNG Delpierre 1512). Plus two AR Eighth-Shekels of Byblos: perhaps Azbaal and Ainel: Hoplites in galley left, hippocamp below / Lion attacking bull. And lastly, Hasmonean Judea, an AE 22 mm. of Mattathias Antigonus, 40-37 BC.: Double cornucopia / Ivy wreath (Hendin 481). Silvers of good metal. Aegina with banker's mark towards edge. Byblos AR's nice. Antigonus boldly struck on tight flan. Lot of 8 coins. Coins range from Fine up to About Extremely Fine.
