(Hokinson, Helen) New Yorker Magazine Cover. Original pencil and watercolor drawing by Helen E. Hokinson, the premier New Yorker cartoonist from the magazine's 1925 inception until her death in 1949. 12¼ x 9 inch image on 15½ x 12¼ inch artist's Bristol. In pencil at lower right: "Helen E. Hokinson / Silvermine / Norwarlk, Conn."; the number "989" is in red pencil at lower left. The cover shows two typical Hokinson matrons chatting outside a sports stadium; one of them holds pennants for Yale and Harvard. Hokinson's fashion-conscious, plump, well-to-do women were a regular New Yorker feature. A wonderful display piece.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.
