Poster Inspired By the Sinking of the Llandovery Castle. World War I poster by an anonymous artist., possibly Canadian, headed "Victory Bonds Will Help Stop This," 36 x 24 in. At the bottom is "Kultur vs. Humanity." Soft creasing and overall toning; numerous marginal chips and a 3 in. tear at lower edge; both bottom corners are missing. The poster commemorates the sinking of the ship Llandovery Castle by a German torpedo on the night of June 27, 1918; 14 Canadian Red Cross nurses were killed, as well as most of the crew and passengers, when the ship's lifeboats were repeatedly run over and fired at by the Germans. As a result of international outrage over the incident, the U-boat's officers faced a war-crimes trial in 1921.
Estimated Value $100 - 150.

Realized $144
