Pilots Paul Tibbets & Charles Sweeney: Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, The Enola Gay and Bockscar, 7 Signed Photos Including One Together. The United States dropped two nuclear weapons over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945, killing over 150,000 plus Japanese, most civilians. Japan surrendered to the Allies on August 15, and signed their Declaration of Surrender on September 2, in Tokyo Bay, effectively ending WWII. Offered is a superb collection of signed photos, including: 1.) A scarce 8 x 10 photo signed by pilots Paul Tibbets AND Major Charles Sweeney, pilots of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings respectively. 2) Signed photo of Pilot Paul Tibbets, Navigator Theodore J. Van Kirk, and Bombardier Thomas Ferebee. 3.) Signed photo of the destruction of Hiroshima and of Little Boy signed by Tibbets, Ferebee, Van Kirk, Morris Jeppson, Weapons Officer and R.H. Nelson, Radio. 4.) Two photos signed by Jacob Beser, who was the only crew member to fly on BOTH missions. 7.) Signed 5 x 7 by Weapons Officer Morris Jeppson. All are in excellent condition. 8.) Scarce full mint sheet of 36 stamps and history of the only rescinded stamp design in postal history. In 1995 a stamp was to commemorate the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki but was rescinded as was deemed in poor taste, a design that showed an atomic blast in crimson red. Estimated Value $750 - UP
