World War I: 18 Autographs of WWI Pilots, Aces, Commanders including Eddie Rickenbacker, General John Pershing & Major Jimmy Doolittle. Wonderful, unique collection of autographs all obtained in the early 1930s, signed on superb hand painted covers by the artist/autograph collector himself. This resulted in a fine collection of artists, writers, sports legends, pilots and entertainers responding to him due to these beautiful miniature works of art that can be found throughout this auction. Great collection of mostly WWI notables signed on beautifully executed covers: Philippe Pétain, French Commander of the Second Army during the 9 month Battle of Verdún on the same cover as Commander John J. "Black Jack" Pershing, Eddie Rickenbacker, America's Ace pilot, Jimmy Doolittle (maybe better known during WWII) but a pilot trainer during WWI, Rear Admiral career navy officer, who is most remembered for his leadership of USS Minnesota during World War I, Anthony G.H. Fokker legendary plane builder during WWI, Major George Beaumont who gave the order to "Cease Firing" Nov. 11, 1918, Felix von Luckner, legendary German Naval Captain, Pilot Hermann Köhl, German WWI Ace, Lt. General James G. Harbord under Pershing, and Major General Ben Hebard Fuller, Navy and Marines. Also included Charles Lockwood, sole survivor of the Last Man's Club of Civil War Veterans, Captain Louis J. Gulliver, US Constitution in 1933 and more. Each would frame beautifully.
