Lot 115

1808 C-3 R1 PCGS graded AU55. Very attractive frosty medium brown and light chocolate. Satiny mint luster shows in the protected areas and this piece offers outstanding eye appeal. The only notable marks are a small spot of microscopic reddish carbon nestled between the right top of the E in LIBERTY and the dentils and a few inconsequential nicks on the neck. Nicely struck E-MDS, Manley state 2.0. There are traces of die rust in the field before the portrait but dentils show all the way around both sides. The second 8 shows repunching inside both the upper and lower loops. Curiously this 8 was constructed using the punch intended for the zeroes in the denominator, one on top of another to create an 8 that is clearly larger than the first 8. The reverse is rotated 25 degrees CCW. A very nice half cent. Our grade is EF45+, close to AU50. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 5; 5 finer, 1 in 58, 2 in 62, 1 in 63, 1 in 64+ for the variety. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
