Mexico - Republic. Pattern 8 Reales, 1823-Mo-JM (Mexico City). Buttrey Pn-20 (plate coin); KM-Pn-2 (plate coin). Silver 26.98 grams. Upright eagle type. Eagle and snake on cactus. Reverse: Liberty Cap within nimbus. Splendid strike. A few marks, but overall clean and choice. Attractive multicolored, even toning. NGC graded Proof 64.
Estimated Value $30,000 - 40,000.
Ex Peltzer Collection (Glendining sale of June 1927). Ex Norweb Collection (Christies sale of November 1985). The far superior specimen of the only two known examples in private hands. A most important crown of the Mexican Republican series!
