Lot 1064

(Lincoln, Abraham) Nomination For the Presidency. Historical newspaper, Moore's Rural New Yorker, "For the Week Ending Saturday, May 26, 1860," Rochester, New York, 8pp, 19¼ x 13½ in. A splendid account of Abraham Lincoln's nomination at the National Republican Convention, held in Chicago, May 16, 1860. After receiving 102 votes on the first ballot, then 181 on the second, "…the final ballot, was taken, when Abram Lincoln, of Illinois, received 231½ votes, or within 1½ of the nomination. Mr. Andrews of Mass. rose and corrected Massachusetts, by changing four votes, and giving them to Lincoln, thus nominating Lincoln by 2½ majority." Other states followed, bringing Lincoln's total to 354, and "the nomination was declared unanimous." Scattered foxing, else very good.
Estimated Value $150 - 200.
