(Lincoln, Abraham) The Gettysburg Address. Complete issue of the New-York Daily Tribune, November 20, 1863, 8pp, 21 x 15½ in., containing an early comprehensive account of the Consecration Ceremonies at Gettysburg Cemetery. Two columns on the front page and almost the entire second page describe the event in detail, including President Lincoln's legendary speech, which was interrupted five times with applause, and the entire text of orator Edward Everett's address. On the evening of his arrival, the President was serenaded by the band of the 5th NY Artillery. He thanked the cheering crowd and made some humorous comments, among which: "…In my position it is somewhat important that I should not say any foolish things. It very often happen that the only way to help it is to say nothing at all. Believing that is my present condition this evening, I must beg of you to excuse me from addressing you further." He retired amid loud cheering. Small notches at left edge from binder removal; otherwise fine. Handsomely preserved in a custom-made black and burgundy folio, 22 x 16¾ in., with gilt lettering. An exceptional issue, rich in historical content.
