Lot 1047

1841 N-1 R5 (Proof Only) PCGS graded Proof-64 Red & Brown. The obverse is bright original mint red just starting to fade to light steel brown on the highpoints. The reverse is mint red fading to bluish steel with at least half of that side displaying faded mint color. The only marks are a couple microscopic specks of carbon or dark toning on both sides and some extremely faint hairlines on the obverse. A beautiful example of this proof-only variety. Called Proof-64 and tied for CC#2 in the Denis Loring census of proof large cents. Called Proof-64+ and CC#3 in the Grellman census. Our grade is Proof-64+. And it comes with a nice provenance. Pop 8; 2 finer in 65RB.
Estimated Value $8,000-UP.
