California Gold Rush, Travel Letter, Dated 1850. Autographed letter signed by J.B. Bell to his mother dated June 1, 1850 as he sails on the Bark Clarissa in the Pacific on his way to San Francisco to ultimately prospect for gold. Actually quite the colorful letter as he recounts some of his experiences: life on the ship, other passengers, fights, and his safe arrival to San Francisico. Letter is in good condition, some staining, some possibly original during the writing of the letter, thrice folded with minor separations peeking though the fold lines. Four pages on two leaves, 9¾" x 7¾" Legible and in overall good condition.
