Lot 102

1848 N-38 R3. PCGS graded MS-63 Red & Brown. CAC Approved. Lustrous bright original mint red just starting to fade to light steel brown on the highpoints, about 70% of the mint color remaining. This cent offers great eye appeal. The only flaws are a thin, shallow diagonal scrape on the cheek and a couple tiny ticks in the hair over the B in LIBERTY. Otherwise this cent is a gem. EDS, die state a. Fine die lines are visible at UNITED and ERIC. Called MS63 and CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #30604. Our grade is MS64, CC#1 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Naftzger provenance are shown on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
Ex Willard C. Blaisdell (from his date set) 9/1976 (via Del Bland)-R. E. Naftzger, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 9/7/2009:892. The Blaisdell and Naftzger collection envelopes are included.

Realized $3,760
