Lot 1014

1800 Blunt 1. BD-2, Rarity 3+. PCGS graded MS-63. Well struck with lovely golden-olive mint bloom color. For the variety this is likely one of the finer examples known as precious few early half eagles merit the Choice grade from PCGS. The surfaces are satiny and bright, with minimal signs of handling. The strike is bold as noted, and the stars are fully brought up on both the obverse and reverse. This is an extraordinary grade for a Capped Bust, Heraldic Eagle $5 gold piece. From the meager numbers that survived at all the vast majority do show some degree of circulation, even if they remain in high technical grades today. Mint state pieces are scarce to rare for any date of ths type. Here is one that is not only mint state, but Choice too! That's quite a miraculous event to find a coin that is 224 years old still in virtually the same condition that it was struck in so long ago. While not the absolute finest, but still quite respectible for its charming qualities and choice condition overall. No adjustment marks are seen, and the eye appeal is exceptional for this prized early date Capped Bust half eagle. Bathed in glittering luster and highly appealing. Pop 13; 3 in 63+, 10 in 64, 1 in 64+, 1 in 66+. (PCGS # 8082) Estimated Value $25,000 - UP
