Head, Edith (1897-1981). Celebrated costume designer of over 400 feature films. Nominated for 34 Oscars, Head has been honored with eight of the statuettes. She was hired by Paramount Pictures after answering a newspaper ad for sketch artists and became a celebrated designer in such demand that she rarely did her own sketches. Her work can be seen in the films All About Eve, Sunset Blvd., A Place in the Sun, To Catch a Thief (admittedly, her favorite assignment), Airport, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Roman Holiday, Samson and Delilah, Sabrina, and The Sting, among numerous others.

Costume sketch designed by Edith Head. From the "Airport Collection", this drawing pictures a young woman wearing a funky pantsuit in a polka dot design with cropped jacket, barét and large handbag. Head has signed the lower right corner, and identified the outfit for the collection. Measuring 10 x 13½", laid down for an overall size of 12 x 16". Surface crazing, a few abrasions, and light soil. Mat board is a bit worn. Still, in good to very good condition overall.
Estimated Value $250 - 350.
