Lot 1

1652 Massachusetts Oak Tree Shilling Noe-9 Rarity-5 NGC XF Details, Improperly Cleaned. The obverse (tree side) is cleaned bright silvery gray while the reverse is a more subdued medium silvery gray with hints of steel blue. The date and denomination are bold and the Oak Tree is sharply defined. The only defects are a shallow planchet void (as struck) between the tops of the O and M in DOM and a pinch on the rim over the A in MAS. The obverse is slightly off center to K-9 leaving the tops of some letters off the planchet while the reverse is nicely centered and those legends are complete. LDS with obvious die rust and swelling at MAS. A decent example in spite of the cleaning. Our grade is VF30. Weight listed as 70.9 grains on the NGC label. Listed on page 39 in the "Redbook."
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.

Realized $3,408
