Lot 1

1662 Massachusetts Oak Tree Twopence Noe-29 R6+ NGC graded AU Details Holed. Glossy light bluish gray and silvery steel. Frost shows in the protected areas and this piece displays very little if any wear. But there is a rather crude hole through the H at the top of the obverse and the hole passes through the upper part of the second 6 in the date. It appears a small nail was inserted through the coin from the reverse to the obverse. Otherwise the date and legends are clear except for the tops of a few letters that are slightly off the planchet. The obverse (tree side) is misaligned to the lower left, as usual for this variety, while the reverse is rather well centered on the planchet. There is no trace of a break from the base of the 2 to the bead at the right (the die break is used to identify the more-common Noe-30 version that was struck from this same pair of dies in a later die state). Estimate Value $600 - UP

Realized $1,116
