11th Annual Goddard Memorial Dinner Program with Original Autographs by John Glenn and Wernher von Braun. Autographs of John Glenn Jr. and Werner von Braun autographed on the 11th Annual Goddard Memorial Dinner program both signed on the same page. The dinner was held on March 5th 1968 in Washington, DC. It is an annual event sponsored by the National Space Club. The Club, founded in 1957, is a non-profit organization composed of representatives of industry, government, educational institutions, and private individuals, which collectively seek to promote United States leadership in the fields of rocketry, astronautics, and related technologies. Awards are presented at each Dinner to a number of outstanding individuals for accomplishments in spaceflight, engineering, science, management and education. Very fine condition. Two Signed Letters by Werner von Braun in the Mid-1970s to Author Mitchell Sharpe. Two typed letters signed by Werner von Braun on Fairchild Industries stationery while he was Vice-President-Engineering. One dated June 6, 1974 responding to author and historian Mitchell R. Sharpe where he asked von Braun to identify a certain "commission" from June 3, 1945 while he was in Garmisch. (Copy of that commission included) The other typed letter signed is from February 4, 1975 to Sharpe where he compliments him on his book "Tereshkova". The 1974 letter has rust from paperclip but other wise very clean, the other letter, pristine. Estimate Value $700 - 1,000

Dr. Wernher von Braun Handwritten Letter Regarding X-4 and X-7 Missils and Related Letters/ Histories 1970s. Wernher Magnus Maximilian Freiherr von Braun (1912-1977) was a German, later American, aerospace engineer credited with inventing the V-2 rocket for Nazi Germany and the Saturn V for the United States. He was one of the leading figures in the development of rocket technology in N*zi Germany, where he was a member of the Party and the SS. Following World War II, he was secretly moved to the United States, along with about 1,500 other scientists, engineers, and technicians, as part of Operation Paperclip, where he developed the rockets that launched the United States' first space satellite Explorer 1, and the Apollo program manned lunar landings. Offered is a notebook of related material of von Braun and many of his associates with letters and histories being answered in response to author of rocketry and space history, Mitchell R. Sharpe, with letters from Magunus Von Braun, W. Heisenberg, Albert Schuler and many more. Best is a handwritten in pencil and signed, two page by Dr. Wernher Von Braun answering about ten of Sharpe's questions dated July 15, 1974 in excellent condition. Collection of V-2 Rocket Ephemera Including Badge & Papers by Rocket Pioneer, Hans Hosenthein. Original papers in the hand of German/US rocket pioneer Dr. Hans Hosenthien of the original Werner von Braun team of specialists, during the rocket development at Germany's Peenemünde V-2 (A-4) rocket from 1943-45. Included are three pages of technical notes and diagrams, one printed schematic from a German language tech manual, a small photo of the V-2 Rocket and finally a RARE access badge utilized by employees to access various facilities within the research center at Peenemünde. Documents in excellent condition while the badge indeed rare, in fair condition but legible with original paint visible. Estimate Value $300 - 500

Archive of Amazing Photos, Research Materials, Letters, and More by Published Writer and Historian of Rocketry. Dr. Mitchell R. Sharpe was closely identified with the national space program for more than 20 years and is the author of several books on space flight and rockets Including "The Rocket Team", "Basic Astronautics: An Introduction to Space Science and Engineering", and" Living in Space", biographies of Yuri Gargarin and Valentina Tereshkova and many more, frequently collaborating with Frederick Ira Ordway, an equally acclaimed writer of the history of rocketry and aeronautics. Offered is a giant archive (2 full file boxes) of files an enormous cache of letters, research findings, photos and the like from his personal collection the bulk having to do with the history of rocketry. While some of the material in this lot are photocopies, there is a fair amount of original coorespondence and carbons relating to events of WW II. An absolutely fascinating trove of information from the 1960s to 1990s, and the countless men and women who made it possible. The scores of photographs all in various sizes come from many different people/companies that were involved in rocket science from all over the world. The photos alone make this collection a treasure. Coupled with the many letters from the greatest scientific minds at the time, globally, the technical and historic information they contain is remarkable. Included are numerous memos and correspondence by and to Dr. Wernher von Braun (1912 -1977) a German then later American, aerospace engineer and space architect credited with inventing the V-2 rocket for Germany and the Saturn V for the United States and one of the leading figures in the development of rocket technology. Particularly nice is a two page handwritten and signed response regarding rocket development in German during WWII. These files and photo have been beautifully kept in over a dozen notebooks, plus many file folders each tabbed by subject. Must be seen to be fully appreciated, but know, this is an institution-worthy collection of a lifetime of rocket history and research. Author's collections including a 237 pp typed manuscript of "It is I, Seagull", the story of Valentina Tereshkova by Mitchell R. Sharpe with glued in corrections (this is the author's most well-known book) AND Chapters 1-3 of his book "Rendezvous at Reutte". Finally four books on rocketry, one in German

Superb Collection of 110 Vintage Original and Re-Strike Photos Mostly 1950-1960 of Early Rocketry. An archive of 110 photos from all over the world, most identified and dated on verso and used for a variety of published books and articles by Frederick I. Ordway III and Mitchell R. Scharpe authors specializing in the history of rocketry, aeronautics and space. Some are original, others vintage re-strikes. Most are 8 x 10s and 5 x 7s, with a handful of 4 x 5s. (There are also six color slides) While the bulk of the collection date from the early 50s and 60s there exist some interesting photos decades earlier. Rockets, Black & White Publicity Photos Collection of Author/Historian of Rocketry. Lot of 85+ B&W photos plus 45, 3½ x 5" photos, plus several dozen photos in other sizes from involving early propulsion and rocketry from the 30s to the 50s, as well as personal photos of Dr. Kurt Magnus from the USSR (ca. early 1950s, the celebrated expert on gyroscopy) from acclaimed authors Ordway and Sharpe. Many of the more important photos have description on the backs. Both used many of these as illustrations in their various books and articles. This is definitely a lot for a photo archivist rather than just a space buff. The behind-the-scenes shots are fascinating. The usual mixed condition and sizes should not be a deterrent to acquiring this lot. Estimate Value $200 - 300
