Lot 103
1793 S-1 R4 Chain AMERI. PCGS graded Good-6. Glossy chocolate brown and steel with hints of dark bluish steel overtone on the obverse. The surfaces are smooth, especially for a Chain Cent, but there are some minor imperfections including several microscopic pits and a couple thin nicks, none distracting. The date is not strong (which is typical of this obverse die) but it remains readable and the legends are complete. The reverse is nearly choice. MDS, Breen state III, with a raised area at the top of the U in UNITED but no die cracks. A quite decent example of this very popular "Redbook" type. Our grade is VG8. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $6,000-UP.

Lot 104
1793 S-3 R3- Chain AMERICA VG8. Sharpness VF20 but covered with tiny nicks mixed with areas of minor roughness. None of the marks is especially significant but there are far too many to ignore. No verdigris. The toning is an attractive and partially glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. The date and legends are complete and clear. E-MDS, Breen state II. Removed from an ANACS slab graded VG8 (label #359428 included).
Estimated Value $5,000-UP.

Lot 105
1793 S-4 R3 Chain AMERICA with Periods PCGS graded Fair-2. Slightly glossy dark chocolate brown and olive with lighter chocolate toning on the devices. The planchet is mostly smooth but there is a small pit in the field before the forehead. A few small contact marks, none significant. The date is faint but can be "imagined" with some effort. The portrait and ERTY are much easier to see, but they are weak. The chain, ONE CENT, and the fraction are clearer. Basically just a well worn Chain Cent consistent with the expectations that come with the assigned Fair-2 grade. The "Periods" feature is noted on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $2,500-UP.

Lot 106
1793 S-8 R3 Wreath Cent, Vine & Bars Edge PCGS graded F15. Very attractive glossy steel brown and medium chocolate. No roughness or verdigris, and the only marks are a few light scratches in the obverse fields, none visible without the aid of a strong glass. The date and legends are complete and clear. LDS, Breen state III, with obvious swelling inside the wreath and a bisecting die crack slanting across the reverse. This piece offers excellent eye appeal for a Wreath Cent. Our grade is consistent with the slab grade. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $4,000-UP.

1793 S-11c R3- Wreath Cent, Lettered Edge VG10. Variety with a single leaf following DOLLAR on the edge lettering. Sharpness VF35 but covered with moderate roughness mostly in a striated pattern following the stress lines created by the planchet strip rollers. No verdigris or contact marks. The toning is a decent and somewhat glossy medium brown mixed with light olive. The date and legends are easily readable even though some elements are distorted by the uneven surfaces. The edge lettering is complete and clear, including the single leaf following DOLLAR. Removed from a SEGS holder graded "XF-40, Rough Planchet" (SEGS label #5136821243300908603 included).
