Adams, Ansel. The Abode of Snow. Print size 6" x 7¾". Mount size 10" x 12". Unsigned. Gelatin silver print. This vintage print is from the portfolio Parmelian Prints of the High Sierras [sic], 1927. This portfolio was an instrumental event on Adams' life as its successful publication gave him confidence that photography might provide a living and career.

Printed on Kodak Vitava Athena Grade "T" parchment paper with the individual slip folders. Title is typeset on parchment recto, centered in margin beneath image, ½" from bottom edge.

Gelatin silver print from Portfolio IV, What Majestic Word, dedicated to the memory of Russell Varian, a scientist and inventor. Plate 9. The slipsheet for this prints reads: "Once you have entered the mountains, you will look forward to each successive return, as one looks forward to a return home, for you are returning to the clean, simple world in which the race was born and which your remote ancestors grew to fit and came to love." Adams, Ansel. Cypress Roots, Pebble Beach, California. Print size 9 ¼" x 12". Mount size 16" x 20". Gelatin silver print. Full signature, pencil, beneath right bottom edge. Adams continued to teach and photograph into his eighties, although very few late negatives were ever printed for sale through galleries. This is a late career vintage print (1979), essentially unknown but representative of the experienced eye and printing technique.

Vintage gelatin silver print made from a glass plate negative (2-GP-105) taken on a Sierra Club outing into the Kern-Kaweah/ Mt. Whitney region of the Sierra Nevada in the summer of 1927. Unsigned. Adams' negative numbering system indicates that the negative was 6½" x 8½", and that this may have been a contact print. This is probably a sample print Adams made from which to generate orders from club members who were on the outing. Matted to 13" x 15". With COA from The Ansel Adams Gallery.

Vintage gelatin silver print made from a glass plate negative (2-GP-105) taken on a Sierra Club outing into the Kern-Kaweah/ Mt. Whitney region of the Sierra Nevada in the summer of 1927. This print was discovered with a group of photographs verifiably made on this trip, on which reaching the summit of Mount Whitney was a prime objective. This is probably a sample print Adams made from which to generate orders from club members who were on the outing. Matted to 13" x 15". With COA from The Ansel Adams Gallery.

Photographers, Late 1800s. Actors, Actresses and The Costumed. Collection of 60 Photos. A collection of cabinet cards of actors, actresses and possibly society swells dressed for masquerade, predominantly taken in New York City with most wearing incredible costumes. One portrait cabinet card is of famed Shakespearean actor, Edwin Booth. Twelve of the cards measure 6½" x 4¼", the other 48 cards, virtually all from three photography studios from New York City measure 8" x 4". Words cannot describe the diversity of faces, costumes, and backdrops these photographs represent, but they are all quite fantastic. Many of the portraits are identified in writing on verso, but truly, the stories are told in the fanciful images. All in excellent condition.

Archive of professionals, politicians, clergy, military, high society swells and the like in this archive of cabinet card photos of men taken in the late 1800s. Many certainly of note, including Oliver Wendell Holmes in his library, a portrait taken by Mathew Brady in his Washington DC studio, Benjamin Harrison's family taken in the White House and scores more. Photos represent a cross section of photography studios from the US, Canada and even the UK. Virtually all the cards measure 6½" x 4¼" and are in excellent condition. A remarkable look back in time and the styles, perfect for reference.

With photography still very much in its infancy comes this wonderful collection by a photographer named Dennis from areas of Colorado from the late 1800s. Collection also includes single images from NYC, Minneapolis and Salem. Size of cabinet photos are almost all 5¼" x 8½" with the one a shot taken in Salem, Massachusetts, measuring 7" x 9". These photos average 125 years old and are in excellent condition.

Photographers, Late 1800s. Women and Children of the Gilded Age, Collection of 65 Photos. Collection of cabinet photos all from the late 1800s, the bulk from New York City, Boston and Pennsylvania, of women and children from the upper middle class to those of considerable wealth. As a study of styles, the fashion, the decor, these photos prove a fantastic look back in time as curated by Edith Wharton. Many of the subjects identified by name, no doubt with family history that traces back to the upper strata of society of the time in the various cities photos were taken. The bulk of the cards measure 6.5" x 4" and given their 100 plus years in age, are in excellent condition.
