Lot 1
1652 Massachusetts Oak Tree Shilling Noe-9 Rarity-5 NGC XF Details, Improperly Cleaned. The obverse (tree side) is cleaned bright silvery gray while the reverse is a more subdued medium silvery gray with hints of steel blue. The date and denomination are bold and the Oak Tree is sharply defined. The only defects are a shallow planchet void (as struck) between the tops of the O and M in DOM and a pinch on the rim over the A in MAS. The obverse is slightly off center to K-9 leaving the tops of some letters off the planchet while the reverse is nicely centered and those legends are complete. LDS with obvious die rust and swelling at MAS. A decent example in spite of the cleaning. Our grade is VF30. Weight listed as 70.9 grains on the NGC label. Listed on page 39 in the "Redbook."
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.

Lightly cleaned some time ago. The Oak Tree is mostly clear but some of the upper limbs fade near their ends. The date and denomination are strong and the legends are easily readable, although a couple letters are weak. The obverse (tree side) is nicely centered on the planchet while the reverse is off slightly to the top leaving a few letters tight to the rim. There are traces of very light smoothing on the edge but they are not significant or distracting. Our grade is net F15. Weight listed as 67.59 grains on the PCGS label. Listed on page 39 in the "Redbook."
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.

1787 Fugio Cent Newman 11-X Rarity-4 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. A STATES UNITED variety. Slightly glossy light steel brown and frosty tan with peeps of faded mint color remaining in protected areas on the obverse. MDS showing strong die clashmarks on the obverse and a pair of fine die cracks on the reverse but without any swelling on the obverse. A high-grade example of a variety that was not found in the Bank of New York Hoard; this example apparently nicer than the Newman plate coin for the die state. Listed on page 87 in the "Redbook."
