Chamberlain, Neville. Historic Autograph Note Signed ("Neville") as Prime Minister, on note paper engraved "Chequers / Butler's Cross Aylesbury / Bucks," 6¼ x 5 in., Oct. 2, 1938. Written to powerful newspaper baron Max Aitken, 1st Baron Beaverbrook (1879-1964) three days after Chamberlain had traveled to Munich and signed the Munich Accord with Hitler, conceding the Sudetenland area of Czechoslovakia to Germany. Chamberlain writes, "My dear Max, Your note gave me great pleasure. Thank you. Yours ever Neville." The note paper has a couple of small holes in blank areas and is backed by a white sheet of paper.

According to A.J.P. Taylor's biography of Lord Beaverbrook, Beaverbrook had written Chamberlain on September 28, saying "My dear Neville, My faith is very great, but not so immense as my joy and delight over your reward…." (p. 385) On September 30, the headline of Beaverbrook's The Daily Express read, "Britain will not be involved in a European war this year, or next year either." On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland and on September 3, Britain declared war on Germany.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,000.

Hirohito - Order of the Chrysanthemum Award to General Maxwell D. Taylor. Hirohito (1901-1989) was the 124th Emperor of Japan (1926-1989). He acceded to the Japanese throne in 1926. His reign was marked by rapid militarization and aggressive wars against China and the United States. In 1946, he renounced his divinity in favor of a democratic, constitutional monarchy. Document Signed by Emperor Hirohito's official chop one page, 20¼ x 14¼", in Japanese. Being The Order of the Chrysanthemum, Japan's highest and most exclusive order, established in 1877 by the Meiji Emperor. The award has historically been awarded to foreign royalty, heads of state, and members of the Japanese Royal Family.

This award was presented to General Maxwell D. Taylor in 1956, while Taylor was the Army Chief of Staff (1955-59). No reason is given for the award, but it was probably for political reasons. Taylor (1901-1987) had a distinguished military career, which, at the time of the award, included having fought and carried out diplomatic missions during World War II in General Mathew B. Ridgway's 82nd Airborne Division, commanding the 101st Airborne Division (1944 to the end of the war), being the first Allied general to land in France on D-Day, serving as superintendent of West Point (1945-49), and commanding the U.S. Eighth Army (1953) in the Korean War. In 1954 he took command of all U.S. forces in the Far East and in 1955 was promoted to four-star general and assigned to lead all United Nations forces in the Far East; after a brief two months in this position, he was called back to the States to become Army Chief of Staff (1955-59).

He would go on to serve as President Kennedy's military representative (1961-62), as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1962-64), U.S. ambassador to South Vietnam (1964-65), and as President Johnson's special consultant. During the Kennedy-Johnson administrations, he played a major role in shaping U.S. policy in Southeast Asia.

WWII, Fine art lithograph, "The Final Moment" by Roy Grinnell. It is autographed by 18 Arizona survivors who were on the ship when it was hit and sunk in Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. The print commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Japanese attack and depicts the attack on the Arizona moments before its fatal destruction. Shortly before 08:00 local time on 12/7/1941, Japanese aircraft from six aircraft carriers struck the Pacific Fleet. The bombers scored four hits and three near misses on and around Arizona. The last bomb hit at 08:06 in the vicinity of Turret II. About seven seconds after the hit, the forward magazines detonated in a cataclysmic explosion. Of the 1400 crewmen on board fewer than 225 survived (1,177 perished). Today the U.S.S. Arizona is a National Historic Landmark and memorial. Few of these 18 survivors are still with us. Acompanied by a COA certifying the authenticity of all 18 autographs. A touching tribute to the crew and ship itself.
