Demand Notes

Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 2449
1861, $5 Demand Note. PMG Very Fine 25. . Fr-1. . KL-183. This early Federal issue, the first form of paper money issued by the United States government since the Continental Congress issues of the 1770s and 80s, is always popular with collectors. Surviving examples are not especially rare, but nice examples are not easy to locate as many have problems to one degree or another. This example appears to be a pleasant exception to the rule, as it is free of any major visible distractions.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 7,000.

Lot 2450
1861, $5 Demand Note. PCGS Currency Fine 12. . Fr-3. . KL-181. This Boston Demand Note is well worn but solid for the grade, with no mentionable flaws readily evident. It is, of course, hand signed by clerks signing for the Treasury officials, and the colors and inks have not lost any of their boldness.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,500.
