1850 N-7 R2. MS-63 Plus. Clipped Planchet. Mint red mellowing to light steel brown, two-thirds of the original color remaining. A small swipe of darker toning near the dentils left of star 6 and a small spot of similar toning over the left side of star 12 are the notable marks. M-LDS, the usual hoard die state for the variety. A small planchet clip affects the dentils above star 10 and the opposing ones at the I in AMERICA.

1851 N-40 R5. Fine-15. Attractive glossy steel brown and chocolate with a faint splash of reddish chocolate brown at the coronet tip. There are a few minor nicks on the cheek, but overall the surfaces and eye appeal are nice for the grade. There is a small low spot in the field over the bust tip and a couple more inside the wreath, as often seen on this variety (caused by debris on the dies).

1852 N-7 R1. MS-63. Lustrous steel brown with at least a third of the mint red remaining. The surfaces are satiny and offer excellent eye appeal. The only marks are a barely visible struck-through line (caused by a tiny piece of debris on the die) down from the chin and traces of an old fingerprint in the field at stars 11-13. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. Repunching is clearly visible on all 4 digits of the date. CC#1 of the early die state and CC#2 of the variety regardless of the die state.

1852 N-22 R1. MS-64. Lustrous chocolate and steel brown with at 25% of the faded mint color remaining, mostly on the reverse. The surfaces are virtually flawless and the eye appeal is outstanding. A microscopic planchet flake over the peak of the 1 (visible only with the aid of a strong glass) is the best identifying mark. LDS, die state d (Newcomb's old #9). There is some strike doubling (from die bounce) on the reverse, strongest at the O in ONE and C in CENT. Tied for CC#7 overall but finest of the late die state. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS65RB (NGC label included).

The repunching at the bottom of the 1 & 3 remains clear. Most likely from the Kosoff hoard of mint state examples, but this is a nice one.
