Counterfeit Mutilated Currency with Treasury Instruction Form. This intriguing group includes a Treasury Instruction form and receipt of mutilated currency, detailing the rules of redemption for mutilated currency and detailing a transaction from 1869 where mutilated currency was returned to the Treasury department for redemption. Apparently, $3.00 was returned to the submitter as counterfeit--and $2.50 face value worth of 50 cent fractional currency is included in this lot. An intrguing piece of financial history, worthy of interest from fractional specialists, collectors of counterfeits, and those who simply find this sort of item "cool."

Rare Vignette Book of Engravers Samples. A rare book of Salesmans samples, full of vignette clippings mounted to individual sheets, from the office of John C. Wellstood, Engraver. Several hundred vignette proofs are present in this book that was used by salesmen to display the products and various design elements by engravers in the mid-19th century. Although single sheets from these books occasionally turn up at auction, this is one of the few full books of its type that we have seen. A rare opportunity for the advanced collector of vignettes or student of obsolete banknotes.

State of Georgia Bond Printers Proof Engraving Plate. This copper plate likely dates from the late 1800s, and was probably used for an illustration in a book. It pictures a Georgia $1,000 Estate Bond from the latter half of the 19th century. An excellent example of the type of plate used to print currency, stocks and bonds, and an attractive larger example that would make a great display piece.

Wells Fargo & Co. $200 Travellers Check Specimen. PCGS New 61, Hole Punch Cancelled. This lovely specimen was printed by the Republic Bank Note Company in Pittsburgh, PA, and was payable "In U.S. Gold or the Equivalent as Noted on Margin," indicating the exchange rates that were printed in various world denominations around the border. Obviously dating from the early 20th century, an intriguing piece of financial history and a beautiful piece of engraving work, as well.
