Byzantine Empire. Justinian I, 527-565. Gold Solidus (4.48 g), Constantinople mint, struck 538-545 AD. Helmeted facing bust, holding globus cruciger and shield with horseman motif. Reverse: Angel standing facing, holding linear long cross and globus cruciger, star at right; Officina E. SBC 139; DOC I 8; MIB 6. Some peripheral striking weakness, plus two wavey spots to flan, and a few marks. Reverse field shows evidence of overstriking, plus a brockage(?), or perhaps die clashing. Interesting coin. Nearly Extremely Fine.

Byzantine Empire. Heraclius, 610-641 Gold Semissis (2.19 g), Constantinople mint, struck 610-613 AD. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: Cross potent on globe; Officina E. SBC 784; DOC 51b. Some modest striking weakness, and die-clashing and graffiti evident on reverse. However, nice portrait for this issue. Also, a Solidus (4.02 g), of Theodosius II, 402-450 AD. Struck 441-450 AD., Constantinople. Diademed and helmeted three-quarter facing bust, spear over shoulder. Reverse: Constantinopolis enthroned left, holding globus cruciger; poorly written inscription: IMP XXXXII COS XVII P P. RIC 285; DOCLR 423. Condition: Fine; with scratches and nicks. Lot of 2 coins. First coin: Nearly Extremely Fine.

Lot of Mostly Silver Ancient Coins, c. 150 BC - 235 AD. Earliest an Alexandrine AR Tetradrachm of Mesembria, c. 150-75 BC. Plus Roman Denarii: 2 Republican (including one of Piso Frugi); "Tribute Penny" of Tiberius; Lucilla; and Severus Alexander. Also a rare AE 17mm fleet coin of Antony & Octavian, Achaea, c. 38-37 BC (cf. RPC 1470), in Fair / Fine condition. Plus an AE As of Agrippa. And lastly, two small dumpy AR Mameita Gin, Japan, 18th century. Inspection recommended due to the variety of preservations and surfaces. SOLD AS IS; NO RETURNS. Lot of 11 coins.
