Apollo 8 Crew. 10" x 8" NASA publicity PS "Jim Lovell," "Bill Anders," and "Frank Borman"; Borman added "Apollo 8", n.p., n.d. All three crew members signed with a black marker. During their mission, which launched on December 21, 1968, they became the first humans to orbit around the Moon, paving the way for the first Moon landing seven months later.

Lot 152
Von Braun, Wernher (1912-1977) Leading rocket scientist in Germany and the United States; he is considered the father of the United States program. Three page of typed notes with holograph notations and five of von Braun's famous "B" signatures. The notes are weekly summaries written by Dr. Ernst Stuhlinger in 1961, '63 and '67 to von Braun, who became director of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in 1960. One of von Braun's comments is, "!!A bit fast eh! B" The papers cover topics critical to the space program in the 1960s, including landing a man on the moon, with specific information on Launch Vehicle Technology, Electric Propulsion systems, Saturn C-1 three stage rocket, Supporting Technology related to "Manned Lunar Progect" and Pegasus III Mission. Also included is an original 1957 Marshal Space Flight Center photo of Dr. von Braun with a scaled-down ablation warhead, as well as a COA from Dr. Stuhlinger, who was Dr. von Braun's right-hand man.

(Aviators and Astronauts). A goup of nine FDCs signed by a variety of pioneer pilots, test pilots, and astronauts, among which are John Glenn, Jim Irwin, Fred J. Ascani (3), Robert J. Gilliland, Stan Butchart (2), Corky Meyer (2), B.J. Hinds, Louis W. Schalt, and three others (difficult to read). All very fine.

Lindbergh, Charles A (1902-1974) TLS, 1p, 11" x 8½", Darien, Conn., 1968 April 13. To Father Edward B. Rooney, Jesuit Missions, New York. Very fine. Lindbergh mentions Dr. Alexis Carrel, with whom he worked on construction of the perfusion pump, used to keep organs alive outside the body, and denigrates a book by Ross, claiming that an article Ross had written about him "was a mixture of fiction and rumor along with some fact…trivial and rather silly…." He also decries the bloodshed in Africa.
