Andrew, Duke of York (1960-) Third child and second son of Queen Elizabeth II; titled Duke of York and 4th in the line of succession. He married and subsequently divorced Sarah Ferguson; they have two daughters. He also served in the Royal Navy, seeing action in the Falklands War aboard HMS Invincible. He is currently the United Kingdom's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.

Waist-up photograph of Andrew in his naval uniform, signed and dated "Andrew 2006" on the matte; the photo is 5¾" x 3¾", 7¾" x 5¾" with the matte. Housed in a handsome navy leather frame is by Smithson of Bond Street. The overall size is 9½" x 7½".

Charles and Camilla. Color Photograph Signed and dated, "Charles 2005" by the Prince of Wales and Signed "Camilla" by the Duchess of Cornwall. The photograph is 5" x 4", 7" x 5½"; with the mount, on which the couple signed. The beautiful frame is from Ettinger, London; it is Christie green leather, with a gold crown at the top. Extremely fine. Charles and Camilla married on 9 April 2005.

Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. First Day Cover with an official one-crown coin and two commemorative stamps issued by Great Britain to honor the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in St. Paul's Cathedral on 22 July 1981. Charles and Diana signed in black marker on the transparent plastic portion of the holder of the First Day Cover. The outside of the 4¾" x 9" holder is engraved in silver print against a blue background with the British Coat of Arms: "Official Tributes of Great Britain honoring The Royal Wedding / Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer." This was the first time in history that Great Britain issued both a special coin and commemorative stamps to mark a royal wedding.

Christmas Card from 1986 showing Charles and Diana with the two young princes, Inscribed and Signed by Charles, "to you both from Charles and" and signed simply "Diana." Extremely fine. Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope addressed to Sir Goronwy Daniel, DCVO, CB, Ridge Farm, Letterston, Haverfordwest, Dyfed. The envelope is stamped at upper right "Registered 16 DEC 1986 Buckingham Palace S.W.1" and at lower left with the royal "EIIR" stamp.

  Ernst Augustus II (1771-1851) 1st King of Hanover (1837-51); also known (1799-1837) as the Duke of Cumberland. He was the fifth son and eighth child of King George III of the United Kingdom and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Document Signed as King, one page, in German, 10¾" x 9¼", with integral leaf, Hanover, 31 December 1845. Untranslated. Very good; horizontal fold split through signature, easily repaired; paper loss in lower left corner, affecting nothing. The script is nice and clear and the signature large and bold.

Hirohito, Emperor of Japan (1901-89) He acceded to the Japanese throne in 1926. His reign was marked by rapid militarization and aggressive wars against China and the United States. In 1946, he renounced his divinity in favor of a democratic constitutional monarchy. Document Signed as Emperor, 4 pp (2 in Japanese and 2 in French), 13¼" x 9¾", "In Our Palace in Tokyo, the eighteenth day of the ninth month of the fifty-sixth year of Showa" (1981). Also signed by Prime Minister Zenko Suzuki with his seal and Kichi Miyazawa, Minister, with seal. The document has a total of three scarlet stamps, as well as a bold, dark signature. Very fine; light crease at top edge; file holes in margin, away from text and signature. With English translation.

To the President of the Republic of Bolivia, in part: "…Desiring to maintain and tighten the bounds of friendship and good terms existing so fortunately between Japan and the Republic of Bolivia, the Japanese Government has chosen mr. Toru Yoshimizu as Extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Your Excellency. We are pleased to attest such by the present letters, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of Japan. Mr. Toru Yoshimizu, with his integrity, his talents and his devotion, will know to carry out his honorable mission in such a way that he will merit favorable consideration and trust from Your Excellency. We beg Your Excellency to grant whole credence to all he will set out to you in the name of Japan. We take this opportunity to express to Your Excellency our ardent wishes for His personal happiness and for the prosperity of His Country."

Louis XIII (1601-43) King of France (1610-43). He ascended to the throne when his father, Henry IV, was assassinated; his mother, Marie de Medici, was regent during his minority (1610-17). Document Signed as King during the regency of his mother, one page, vellum, in French, 9" x 12", n.p. 9 Sept 1615.An award given for services rendered in England for Louis. "By the King" is to the lower left of Louis' signatue, and a minister signed at the lower edge. Overall age yellowing and paper loss at lower right, with a tear affecting the minister's signature only. Louis' signature is still bold in spite of dark toning to right side of document.

  (Louis XIII) la Rivière, Louis Barbier de - Archbishop of Langres. Autograph Letter Signed "La Riviere" one page, in French, 8½" x 6", Paris, 18 July 1640. Writing under seal of secrecy to Monsieur de Chavigny, informing him that the Abbé of Boisgenay has just died and that the disposition of the abby depends on Monsieur. Very good; overall toning and light soiling; tiny mounting remnants in corners; one old penciled notation. Boldly written and signed. The Abbé de la Rivière was a friend of Gaston d'Orléans (brother of Louis XIII) but betrayed him to the profit of Mazarin, who succeeded Richelieu as Louis' Chief Minister (1642).

Louis XV (1710-74-) King of France (1715-74). Document Signed as King, one page, vellum, in French, 9½" x 13", Versailles, 12 April 1751. Making an award to Marie Magdelaine Berthe, an English woman who had converted to Catholicism when she married Yves Arnaud, a dragoon in one of the King's regiments. Signed by a minister at lower right. Overall age yellowing; a couple of small tears in lower blank area.

Napoleon I. Document Signed "Np" as Emperor, one page, 13" x 8½" (Paris), 16 March 1808. Fine; light age wear and toning; a couple of penciled notes. Napoleon endorses a request from his Minister of War, Général Henri Jacques Guillaume Clarke (Signed "Clarke") for a quarter increase in salary for gendarme officers who have had to leave their homes and incur expenses involved in guarding deserters. Clarke replaced Alexandre Berthier as Minister of War in 1807 and was made the Duke of Feltre by Napoleon. Clarke was responsible for drafting troops, managing the armies of occupation, and other matters of military organizational and administrative military matters.

Umberto (1904-1983), born the Prince of Piedmont, was the last king of Italy and ruled for only 33 days (May 9 to June 12, 1946), the Italian monarchy having been voted out of existence by a referendum; Umberto went into exile, never to return to Italy. Photograph Inscribed and Signed, "Al Colonnello. John Alexander Campbell / Umberto di Savoia / 1946" on the mount, 9¼" x 7". A three -quarter portrait in uniform, housed in the original green-suede frame with a crown affixed to the top. With a 9" x 6½" Photograph of Marie José (1906-2001)1Umberto's consort, Signed and Inscribed to the same colonel as "Maria Principessa di Piemonte / 46" and housed in a matching frame, each being 17¼" x 13¼". Fine; light toning to mounts and frames. Exceptionally attractive.
