Smith, Arthur - Original Oil Painting Of A Dodger Pitcher, c. 1940s. Original 23½" x 27" painting signed "A. Smith" at lower right artist. This painting was executed with oil on masonite board. It is in fine condition with no cracks, paint flakes or structural damage. Housed in a contemporary frame, the overall size is 32" x 35¾". Smith is better known for his depictions of boxers, but the painting has a baseball theme. It shows a leftie (Brooklyn) Dodgers pitcher winding up to throw during a game against the N.Y.Yankees. Smith painted for the Federal WPA Program in the 1930s and 1940s and was also an illustrator for "The Ring" boxing magazine. His paintings have been exhibited throughout the United States.

Williams, Ted. Photograph Signed in blue marker, 12" x 8", no place, no date. Excellent condition. A waist-up photo of the baseball legend dressed for fishing and holding his fishing gear. After his retirement from baseball, Williams spent much of his time fishing. The Boston Red Sox leftfielder hit 521 homers, batted .344 and had 1,839 RBI. He won two Triple Crowns, and his .483 on-base percentage is baseball's best. Williams' average was .406 in 1941. No player has hit over .400 since.

Two Early Hand-made Bats. U.S.A., later 19th century. One dates to ca. 1870's, the other ca. 1890's (cracked). Slimly proportioned, both show traces of tar applied at the time for better gripping at the handles. Lengths: 37-1/4"; 31-1/2". The bats came out of an early Bob McCann auction.

Michael Jordan's Rookie Card + 1987 & 1988 Cards. 1986 Fleer basketball rookie card of Michael Jordan (card #57) in EX+ condition. The card, which shows Jordan floating through the air as he prepares to dunk, is considered the definitive basketball card of the modern era. One of these cards in Gem Mint condition brought over $6800 at auction in 2005. Accompanying Jordan's rookie card are Fleer cards for his 1987 (card 59) and 1988 (card 17) seasons, also in EX+ condition. All three cards are in lucite holders.

Robinson, Jackie - Privately Printed Promotional Poster. Black and white poster, with red text, put out by Glendale Federal Bank in the early 1950's. Printed on heavy card stock, the all time baseball great stands in a relaxed pose, holding his bat. Well preserved, with a few minor bends, and a bit of rounding to the corners. Size: 28" x 22".

"Smitty at the Ball Game," c. 1929. A hardcover children's book derived from a popular comic strip character of the day. The book's cover with depiction of Babe Ruth. Book somewhat worn and well handled, but fairly clean overall, with still bold colors. Size: 8-3/4" x 6-3/4". Smitty was created in 1922, by cartoonist Walter Berndt, and proved to be one of the more successful strips in the Chicago Tribune stable.

Two 1950 Minneapolis Lakers Pictorial Albums. The pair are duplicate issues, each covering the 1948, 1949, and 1950 seasons. Cover of both issues signed by George Mikan, "Mr. Basketball," considered the finest NBA player of that period. With the eye-searing red covers, these are truly quaint products of the period, and a far cry from the slick media publications of today.

Fitzsimmons, Robert James "Ruby Robert" (1863-1917) Boxing's first triple world champion. English born, he grew up in New Zealand and developed tremendous strength from working as a blacksmith, which helped earn him the reputation of being the hardest puncher in boxing. He moved to the U.S. in 1890 and on January 14, 1891, won the Middleweight title from Jack (Nonpareil) Dempsey. In 1897, he became World Heavyweight champion by beating Gentleman Jim Corbett, landing his legendary solar plexus punch in the 14th round. In 1903, Fitzsimmons defeated world Light-Heavyweight champion George Gardner by a decision in 20 rounds, thus becoming the first boxer to win titles in three weight divisions.

Page from a turn-of-the-century publication showing Fitzsimmons landing his solar plexus blow on James J. Jeffries, c. 1902, Signed "Robert Fitzsimmons," in the lower border, no place, no date, 6½" x 4¼". One closed diagonal tear at upper left. Paper loss in right blank margin where the page was torn from the publication could easily be matted and framed out. Fitzsimmons signature is very bold. His signature is the rarest boxer's signature.

The game board laid out as football field, with peggable football; offensive and defensive moves require players cards. Damages seen to game's box, but interior items near mint. Later, from 1935, Parker Brothers, "Tom Hamilton's Football Game," pits Navy against Army. Comes with boards, instructions, and numerous pieces.
