  1797 Draped Bust Cent. Gripped edge, reverse of 1796. VG-7. Marred only by a dent on the back of the head and a long scratch on the upper reverse. Dark olive.

  Superb 1797 Large Cent. PCGS graded MS-65 BN. Uniformly subdued mint red toning to light steel brown on the high points. A needle sharp strike with splendid semi-lustrous surfaces. Between the tops of B and E in LIBERTY is a dark reddish-brown spot and at the denticles left of L is a smaller one. Virtually unsurpassed for the variety with only five being known in higher grade, one of which is in the ANS and permanently off the market. Undoubtedly one of the examples in a bag obtained from the mint in 1797 by Benjamin Goodhue, later left to his daughter and eventually dispersed by David Nichols of Gallows Hill, Mass. circa 1863.

Darkish olive steel in color. Tied for sixth finest known with three others.
