Goodnight, Veryl. "Duel Aloft." A combative encounter by two ganders over a dusky marsh, as implied by the deep green travertine base. Two Canadian Geese wing aloft in moves at once graceful, and yet undeniably aggressive. A visual emblem of the "natural world" -- beauty and blood. Patinated to a rich chocolate umber, this specie's distinctive white cheek patches have been left the natural bronze color, while the marsh leaves are colored green. Signed, "Veryl Goodnight, 1984." This number 4 in an edition of 30. Height of the bronze, from the top of the marble base: 17-1/2". A popular Western artist for over 25 years, Veryl Goodnight was strictly a painter until 1972. Her subjects included horses, landscapes and wildlife. In 1973 she turned to sculpting, where the public developed a hearty appetite for her unique works. She has been featured in all major American art magazines, and exhibits in prestigious shows. She has placed numerous works in both private, corporate, and public collections.

Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,500.

Lot 2593
Lot of Three Chinese Carved Figurines. Two are female "Quan Yin"-like figures, in flowing garments, with elaborately coiffured hair. One stands, holding a handled bowl or basket, plus flowers and lotus buds. The second is similar, but in reclining-sitting position, with a lotus blossom and water lily pad resting on knee. The third figurine is that of an older woman in less extravagant raiments. She stands holding a bamboo pole from which hangs a fish, with another fish in her other hand. Two of the figures come with carved wooden bases. All figurines with some chips and/or repairs. Along with these, three more items: nicely detailed figures of enthroned emperor and empress, and vase with two tranquil vistas surrounded by raised and inletted decorative arabesques. The three in "ivorine," a resin substitute for elephant ivory. Heights of lapis figures: 4-7/8"; 4-1/4"; 2-1/8". Lot of 6 items.
Estimated Value $200 - 300.
