Lot 1151		1803. Half eagle Kettle token. EF-40. Extremely Fine 40. These pieces were made as brass gaming tokens by the Kettle firm of Birmingham, England and roughly copy the half eagle of 1803. On this particular one the name is still present to the right of the date. Dark patina over most of the coin, with lighter brass areas rubbed through on the upper devices. In the Judd book under appendix C and in the Pollack book on page 471. No doubt these gaming tokens were popular with gamblers of the time, where even a small bet could resemble the current gold coins circulating in America. Estimated Value $10 - 20. Lot 1152		1864. Lincoln Reelection gold medal. R. W. Julian #PR-35. Proof 55 Light hairlines. Dies by Anthony C. Paquet, and struck in Proof. A lovely portrait of Abraham Lincoln, the obverse design shows only his bust against plain fields, the reverse states in bold letters: ABRAHAM LINCOLN/AN HONEST MAN/ THE CRISIS DEMANDS/ HIS RE-ELECTION/ 1864. Struck beginning in August 1864 and continuing into October of that year. Mint records reflect that 29 gold medals were struck, and seven hundred in silver. This particular one has a minor nick right of the date, and another in the obverse right field. An important and popular medal, engraved by one of the finest engravers of the time, and depicting the most written about president of all. Paquet's name is engraved on the lower truncation of Lincoln's bust. A rare opportunity for the specialist. Estimated Value $900-UP. View details and enlarged photos	Realized $1,840
Lot 1153		1874. Franklin Institute Silver Medal by Christian Gobrecht awarded to Thomas Dixon & Sons in the original box. A beautiful silver medal that is housed in the original case of issue by H. H. Peacock of Philadelphia. The medal has minor hairlines, but lovely gold toning over the prooflike fields. On the reverse we note the medal states "REWARD OF SKILL AND INGENUITY" and is ornately engraved "To Thos. S. Dixon & Sons/Philad'a Pa/ For Low Down/ And Elevated Grates/ 1874. The box shows some wear, and the medal is quite beautiful in every way. Token and Medal Society reference by R. W. Julian #AM-17. Doubtless very popular for the rendition of Benjamin Franklin by Christian Gobrecht. Gobrecht was paid $100 for engraving the dies in 1824/5. Lot 1154		1885. Bronze Medal. Sharpness of mint state, but cleaned. A private issue with dies by George H. Lovett, the obverse depicts a seated female Liberty surrounded by wheat, a ship, a spinning wheel, yarn, a plow and cornucopia, she leans on a shield on which perches an eagle, while holding a pole with a cap in her left arm, and a wreath in her outstretched right arm. Encircling the obverse the legend American Institute New York in bold letters. On the reverse, a large wreath is found with The Medal Of Superiority Awarded To then in script writing the winner Martin L. Senderling for Oil Retaining Axle Boxes, Wheels and Hubs with the date 1885 below. The medal has been cleaned, and comes in the original felt lined box of issue. The box binding is broken. Mintage for this private medal is unknown. The Lovett family is well known in numismatics, and their work includes designing the Confederate Cent and other medals of the period. Lot 1155		1893 Columbian Exposition medal overstruck on an 1853 with arrows quarter. EF-40. Enough of the undertype is present to easily identify the 1853 quarter host coin. The obverse now depicts the bust of Columbus at the center, surrounded by WORLDS COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION, the reverse states STRUCK IN THE CANADIAN COURT, CHICAGO 1893, with TO COMMEMORATE THE WORLDS FAIR at the center. Lot 1156		1893. Columbian World's Fair medals. Three medals as follows: the first is a white metal piece from Wm. Deering & Co. with a small hole at the top and elaborate engraving, next is an 1854 with arrows quarter elongated and now states Columbian Exposition 1893, and last is a souvenir medal from Keystone Watch Case Co. Lot 1157		1898. Manila Bay bronze medal awarded to Lieutenant Patrick W. Hourigan. This lovely family heirloom was awarded for Hourigan's participation with other shipmates on the U.S.S. Concord. The original ribbon is intact, and the medal shows some wear. The obverse depicts Commodore George Dewey, and the reverse a sailor artfully rendered. At the lower reverse the name of the ship is engraved, and on the edge is Lieutenant Patrick W. Hourigan is engraved in single block letters. After the explosion on board the battleship Maine in Manila Bay, a number of ships were sent to the area to put down the insurrection. One of those ships was the U.S.S. Concord, which arrived in April 1898. Admiral Dewey won a decisive victory using a number of United States ships, including the Concord, and those participating in the battle were awarded these medals. It is important to note that Hourigan was an officer in the battle and the resounding victory in Manila Bay established the United States interests and responsibilities in the far east. The Concord had a length of 244 feet, and a complement of 3 six inch guns and one four inch gun. Estimated Value $50-UP. View details	Realized $1,438
Lot 1158		A collection of Gambling tokens from the world, minted at the Franklin Mint. These lovely gaming tokens are all struck in proof, and are sterling silver. A total of 25 pieces are included, and they are mounted in a custom green leather box which is embossed in silver lettering on the top THE OFFICIAL GAMING COINS OF THE WORLD'S GREAT CASINOS. The outer case has a few nicks and scuffs, but the coins are all in splendid proof condition. A perfect gift for the world traveler who has a penchant for gambling. The Apollo XI medal has a small area of green corrosion on the reverse, and the Apollo XII medal has some spotting on the obverse, and the Apollo XIII is about as struck. This lot includes the following sets of medals, most are from the Franklin Mint: Sculptors Studio, Great Moments in the life of George Washington, American Legion Medal of American Victories, Norman Rockwell's Memories, Genius of Ben. Franklin, Medallic Yearbook of 1977, History of the American Revolution, Treasures of the Louvre, American Tribal Nations (5 sets), Churchill Centenary medals, America the Beautiful, Antique Car Collection (5 sets), Apollo 13, Silver plates 4 pieces, North American Wildlife and a 1987 silver dollar US. Constitution commemorative coin in government packaging. All the sets are mounted in the original Franklin Mint packaging, some of which show some wear and tear from handling, but the coins seem to be well protected in the plastic mountings. Lot 1161		1882. Haiku Plantation 1 Rial, copper. MS-60+. A scarce example of this Maui token. These were struck to pay laborers on the plantation and doubtless circulated as the main source of money for Maui at the time. Listed as item #42 in the Gould-Bressett reference in Hawaiian Coins, Tokens and Paper Money. Rare and seldom offered, especially with such nice surfaces and mint color. Lot 1163		1883 Hawaiian Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64. Spectacular rainbow toning with gold predominating on both the obverse and reverse, with the rainbow colors around the periphery of each side.
