J. Blanche. Still Life: Peonies, Violets, Lilies and Iris. J. Blanche (not Jacques Emile Blanche) original oil on canvas: a vibrant, dramatic still life of flowers very much borrowing from the techniques and styles of 17th Century Dutch painters. These works capture an elegance and refinement that remains as popular today as the were several hundreds years past. Numerous contemporary artists in Europe have found great success in the study, inspiration and ultimately talent in breathing life once again in this genre.

A beautiful example here and what especially impresses in the scale of this work. Canvas is 36 x 24 and appropriately framed in gilt wood to 46 x 33". The flowers appear lit from within the trailing of vines and greenery beautifully executed, and the large snifter of water and transparency almost hyper-real.
In superior condition. Estimated Value $500 - 800

Kathy Shorkey. Feeding Pigeons Outside the Bakery. Kathy Shorkey, a featured artist by Saatchi Art Group and resident of Venice, California excels in appealing street scenes using with a variety of media at her disposal. While her eye captures contemporary scenes, one is not sure exactly what time period, some scenes feeling decades old but at the same time, quite familiar.
Case in point is this wonderfully warm toned mixed media on canvas work we have entitled "Feeding Pigeons Outside the Bakery". Could be any any number of locations in Venice, but the apparel is conspicuously ageless. One pigeon actually eating out of the gentleman's hand, two wonderful dogs on leash, cigarette dangling from mouth which evokes a time somewhat out of the past.

Work measures 30 x 40" and having 2.75" deep canvas floater frame, a brilliant artistic choice to have painting pop from the wall. Shorkey has signed in lower right corner, the artwork in mint condition. Estimated Value $400 - 600

John Puglisi. "August in Brick City". John Puglisi is something of a Renaissance man. He has worked for a variety of studios including Disney, DreamWorks, Nickleodeon and Sony creating storyboards for some of their most acclaimed animation triumphs including HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. But Puglisi is also a celebrated painter and his works have a strong fan base, the issue being not many being publicly available. This post modern work is typical of his style, with city skyscrapers rising like towers to the heavens, but still very much locked in 1930's to 1950s architecture. The scale of the buildings intentionally dwarf the two city dwellers below at their windows. The approach raises all kinds of themes which make his works so intriguing. 29 x 14" This is a great piece. Estimated Value $2,000 - 3,000

Florence Nupok Malewotkuk: The Grandma Moses of the Bering Sea. Florence Nupok Malewotkuk (1906-1971), who also went by the name Florence Chauncey, was a Siberian Yupik artist known for her drawings of native Eskimo culture, scenes of local wildlife, and documentation of native tattoos. Her "somewhat naive" style earned her the title of "Grandma Moses of the Bering Sea." She was also a skilled artisan of beaded items such as sealskin Mukluks, toys, and slippers. Nupok's artwork has been exhibited across the United States and is in the permanent collection of institutions including the University of Alaska, the National Museum of the American Indian, the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, and the Smithsonian Institution.

This lot contains a scrapbook in a binder of letters between Florence and Zena Holman, who appears to have been a very good friend of Florence's. Within the binder is also a folder of an original story hand written with drawings by Florence from 1943. It is inscribed with "Drawn by Florence, Nupok. / To Her Friend / Mrs Zena G. Holman". Included is a box of photographs and negatives of Florence's artwork with a few of what may be Florence's family. Finally there are two drawings by Florence on some sort of vinyl sheets or photostat.
