Clayton Pond. "Delineating The Constellations To Simplify Astronomy For The Average Man". Clayton Pond (b. 1941) was among the first artists to employ silkscreen printing in a fresh, distinctly personal way. His limited edition silkscreen prints are immediately recognizable for their bright, cheerful colors with a shine as if the inks were still wet. But what is truly impressive is the high number of colored inks used some having up to twenty separate layers.

From the artist about this print: In this piece, "Delineating The Constellations To Simplify Astronomy For The Average Man", the artist imagines an astronaut connecting the stars in each constellation with a light-colored line to make it easier for us to identify the constellations from Earth.

"Delineating The Constellations To Simplify Astronomy For The Average Man", from 1980 and in 16 colors, is 30 x 40", signed and titled by Clayton Pond, Printers Proof (of 5 PP made). Part of the Shuttle Craft Series. Estimated Value $400 - 800

His limited edition silkscreen prints are immediately recognizable for their bright, cheerful colors with a shine as if the inks were still wet. But what is truly impressive is the high number of colored inks used some having up to twenty separate layers.

From the artist about this print: The artist’s inspiration for this piece, "Encountering An Alien Battle Cruiser", was the opening scene of the first Star Wars movie. Here a sinister battle cruiser is capturing the Shuttle Craft in its tractor beam. The beam was created with a translucent, pearlescent overlay.

"Encountering An Alien Battle Cruiser", from 1980 and in 12 colors, is 30 x 40", signed and titled by Clayton Pond, Printers Proof (of 5 PP made). Part of the Shuttle Craft Series. Estimated Value $400 - 800

Clayton Pond. "Acquiring The Constellation Orion For The Smithsonian".

From the artist about this print: "Acquiring the Constellation Orion For The Smithsonian" is a parody on collecting moon rocks. In this image the artist envisions the Shuttle Craft attempting to collect a major constellation to bring back to Earth only to discover it is too large for the storage bay. This piece was the basis for a three-dimensional painting on layered Plexiglas commissioned by NASA. The painting is part of the NASA art collection housed at the Cape Kennedy Visitors’ Center in Florida.

"Acquiring The Constellation Orion For The Smithsonian", from 1980 and in 15 colors, is 30 x 40", signed and titled by Clayton Pond, Printers Proof (of 5 PP made). Part of the Shuttle Craft Series. Estimated Value $400 - 800
