Ten Million Serial Numbered Notes

Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 111
One of three known s/n Ten Million Star Notes. This amazing $1 1963 Federal Reserve Note bears the serial number C10000000* and has been graded PCGS 65 PPQ. This note has traded hands behind the scenes for several decades and now is available at auction. Our estimate may be far too low, as this cataloger sold this note at $25,000 almost five years ago. It should command a higher price today. Estimated Value $25,000 - 50,000
Very little in the world of fancy serial numbered notes excited me to a level where I feel I need to get back into collecting. I sold my personal collection 35 years ago and there have been very few notes that could lure me back into collecting. This lot and the next two get the juices flowing to get back into collecting these rare notes. Confirming with Track and Price's database, Bill Baeder's list of fancy serial numbers and my 55 years involved in this specialty, we can find evidence of only three pieces of U.S. Paper Money with serial number 10000000*.
Today is the first time in history when you have the chance of acquiring all three of these Ten Million Stars. Please don't take this opportunity lightly. The simple reason why this serial number is so difficult is that the Bureau of Engraving and Printing has for much of the past 60 years, removed all serial numbers ending in six or more 9's and six or more 0's in their serial numbers. Compounding that fact that most runs of star notes don't go up to serial #10000000, this makes these three notes the ultimate rarities in special serial numbered notes. There is no known large size note with serial #10000000* and three known small size notes, all of which are offered in The Lunchbox Journeys Collection of Special Serial Numbered Notes today.

The second known serial #10000000* banknote. If you're going to own any of the serial #10000000* notes, it is wise to consider owning all three. That way you "control the market" for this rarest of all serial numbers. This $1 1963A FRN Serial Number D10000000* has been graded PCGS 63 Choice New. Estimated Value $20,000 - 40,000
This ultra rarity sold for $20,000 five years ago and we wouldn't be surprised to see realize double that price in today's sale.
You will likely never see all three of these 10 Million star notes back together again in an auction. So think hard before you let these beauties slip through your hands.

$20 1974 FRN G10000000*. This is the third and final known serial #10000000 STAR note that anyone can document. Searching the database of Sandy Bashover's database by serial number, no others can be documented. This $20 1974 FRN #G10000000* has been graded PMG 64 EPQ Choice Uncirculated. Estimated Value $25,000 - 50,000
This amazing piece looks fantastic when it sits next to a small head serial #00000001*. Remember that #1 stars can bring $25,000 or more per note and there are 25 #00000001* on the Baeder census which was produced in January 2015. We are certain that other #1 stars have surfaced since then.
Since you're looking at only three #10000000*s that you can buy, a price of $50,000 seems reasonable to this cataloger in today's market. Only bidders can decide what the right price is, but once these ultra rarities are sold today, it may be a long time before the new owner parts with one of them.

$1 2013 FRN with ultra rare serial #20000000. This specific serial number is lacking from even the most advanced collection of fancy serial numbered notes. Finding a s/n 20000000 in any condition is a real feat. This beauty is a $1 2013 FRN F20000000M graded PMG 64 EPQ Choice Uncirculated. While we've seen other 20000000s sell in the neighborhood of $2500, we think this example will bring far more in today's sale. Estimated Value $3,000 - 6,000
For decades it has incredibly difficult to locate a serial #20000000 as the BEP has had a long standing policy for most of the past 60 years to pull this serial number out of any pack that included this specific serial number. That practice ended with the 2009 series and we are finally seeing a 20000000 serial number show up once every six months or so.
There are multiple collectors working on trying to complete sets of serial #10000000, 20000000, 30000000, 40000000, 50000000, 60000000, 70000000, 80000000, 90000000. This is a very challenging task that can take a decade or more to finish. The Lunchbox Journeys Collection features a full set. A rare opportunity indeed.

40000000 in About Unc. This 1981 Federal Reserve Note Serial # A40000000C has been graded PCGS 55 About New and will be subject to competition from multiple collectors. Estimated Value $2,500 - 5,000
High grade "ten million notes" are sought after by a dozen different collectors and there is always a shortage of them in the marketplace. We know of no dealers that have any in stock, and when they show up they are quickly placed in private collections long before auction houses are awarded these rarities.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing from the 1960s until approximately 2018 had been removing all serial numbers ending with more than five 99999s and more than 00000s. These notes were removed for quality control purposes. The ten million serial numbers are very, very difficult to obtain and most all of the time trade hands behind the scenes before making their way to auction.

$1 FRN K50000000A. PCGS has graded this $1 1969D FRN #K50000000A wonderful banknote 62 PPQ. It comes from an older series that is NOT supposed to feature any ten million serial numbers. But this great note somehow escaped. Estimated Value $3,000 - 6,000
Starting with a few 2013 series notes the BEP eased up on the rule of pulling out "Ten Million" notes for quality control inspection, so a few are now escaping into circulation.
