Cypro-Mycenaean Pottery, Large Polychrome Amphora, Pigments Well Preserved and in Near Choice Condition. Ancient Cyprus was at the crossroads of the world and the island went through periods of a variety of cultural influences. From 700-600 B.C. the consistent pottery style is on full display with this wonderful piece. A beautiful polychrome amphora decorated with bands of red and black paint, the pigments strikingly well preserved. Overall this piece is in outstanding condition. There is only a one inch area of restoration on the edge of the mouth expertly done, as well as two much smaller chips and a small chip to base. But the entire body is intact and unrestored. Magnificent Twin-Handled Etruscan Amphora Attributed to Micali Painter ca. 525-500 B.C. Large Etruscan Amphora by Micali Painter 525-500 B.C. Double sided panels of black and red sirens are beautifully rendered as well as looming pairs of eyes and accented in ivy. The actual name of the prolific Etruscan black-figure vase-painter, is unknown. Nevertheless, consistent individual characteristics of style suggest a most unique talent. He is called the Micali Painter, having been named in honor of the Italian scholar who first published some of the vases he painted. This is a splendid example of his work Amphora stands 16" tall and has had expert museum grade restoration.

Coptic Textile Fragments 4th -6th Century, Carefully Archived and Presented in Frames. Thanks to the arid climate in Egypt, a number of Coptic textiles and fragments miraculously are still available after more than 1,300 years. The majority of these pieces are held by prestigious museums around the world but fortunately some have remained in private collections. Offered are two examples:
1.) Having two woven panels of man and beast with the borders having a repeating cross in black yarn on what was likely natural or undyed background. Fragment is 6½ x 5" and framed to 9½ x 8½"
2.) This specimen has far more detail work and on closer inspection, includes people intertwined in multi-colored foliate designs with a woven trim of repeating faces. Fragment is 9 x 5" framed to 11½ x 8" and in spite of two sections missing, example still remains visually appealing. Estimated Value $500 - 800

Three (3) Greco-Roman Bronze Strigilis from 1st Century B.C. to 3rd Century A.D. A strigil is a narrow curved scraper, made of horn or metal (bronze, silver), used by Roman and Greek bathers to remove olive oil applied after bathing or exercising. Romans used them particularly in the hot baths and the task was often performed by slaves. On Athenian pottery, strigils are shown in the hands of athletes. This collection features three different strigilis with original patina.
1.) Duck head is 8" long
2.) The hook handled piece is 6¾"

Rare, Fragmented Canopic Jar Lid of Duamutef, 3rd Intermediate Period. Canopic jar lid of Duamutef, 3rd Intermediate Period. Scarce fragmented lid of a jar that contained internal organs of the deceased when buried. Duamutef was, in ancient Egyptian religion, one of the four sons of Horus and a protection god of the canopic jars. Commonly he is said to be the son of the god Horus the Elder.

Translucent green glass jar of a very common, utilitarian shape embellished to a far more fancy vessel. Roman Glass; Large Pale Aubergine Tan Glass Bottle ca. 3rd-4th Century A.D. Large Roman blown glass "carafe" (gourd shaped bottle) in translucent tan with cinnamon colored residue inside. Bottle is intact and free of repairs. One internal pressure line exists that in no way compromises the integrity of the bottle. 6 x 3¾" and quite a find for any level of collector.
