La Rochelle Mint, first issue with cinquefoil at center of reverse and lis in first quarter of reverse, standing figure of Black Prince with sword and pointing finger, four ostrich feathers around bending to right, all within Gothic portico, two lions at feet, legend with quatrefoil stops and beaded circles surrounding, ED** PO** GnS** REG A nGL** PnS** AQVIT, chevron barred A's and V's with letter S's reversed on both sides, Reverse; cinquefoil in central compartment of ornate cross with acorn terminals within quatrefoil over cross quernee, large trefoils in spandrels, legend with double annulet stops and beaded circles surrounding, +DnS** AIVTO**Z** PTECTO** mE**Z** IIPO** SPAIT** COR** mEvm** R, letter R for La Rochelle, weight 5.33g (cf. Schneider 45-48; Elias 151; AGC 157A, dies 6/0; S.8123). With an excellent depiction of the Black Prince, well centered. In NGC holder graded MS 63, very rare this well preserved. NGC Certification Number 6028101-005. Currently the finest graded of this rare Mint across both services. The abbreviated Latin legend on the obverse should read fully "Edwardvs Primo Genitvs Regis Anglie Princeps Aqvitainie" and translates as "Edward, first born of the King of England, Prince of Aquitaine" and on the reverse "Dominus Adjutor Et Protector Meum Et In Ipso Speravit Cor Mevm" which translates as "The Lord is my strength and my shield, and my heart hath trusted him."

Bordeaux Mint, robed Prince standing over two opposing lions, flowers in hair, pointing finger and holding upright sword, four feathers surrounding bending right, all within Gothic portico and tressure of arcs, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding, double voided quatrefoil stops, additional voided quatrefoil at start and end of legend, *ED'** PO** Gn'S** REG' AnGL** PnCS** AQ*, Reverse; Gothic E at centre of cross quernee, lis and lion in angles, large trefoils in spandrels, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding, +DnS** AIVTO** Z** PTECIO** Me** Z** IIPO** SPAVIT** COR** mEvm** B, weight 4.53g (Elias 154b; SCH -; AGC 161A 1/a; S.8126). Toned a little double-struck in parts. In NGC holder graded MS 64 and currently tied for finest with one other example. Estimated Value $10,000 - UP
NGC Certification Number 5880727-003. The abbreviated Latin legends should read in full on obverse as "Edwardvus, Primo Genitvs Regis Anglie Princeps Aqvitanie" which translates as "Edward, first born of the King of England, Prince of Aquitaine." On the reverse the full Latin legend should be "Dominus adjutor et protector meum et in ipso speravit cor mevm" which translates as "The Lord is my strength and my shield, and my heart hath trusted him." Bordeaux Mint, variety without REX title, facing half-length standing figure of King, holding upward sword and pointing finger with his left hand upward, surrounded by treasure of eight full arches, legend and toothed border surrounding, +RICARD': D: GRA: AGLE: FRACIE: D': AQITAN, Reverse; quatrefoil at center of long cross quernée, lion in first and fourth quarters, lis in second and third quarters, tressure of twelve arcs surrounding, legend and toothed border surrounding, +: AVxilivm* mEvm* A* DomInO* B*, weight 3.75g (cf.Schneider 71; Elias 223; AGC 270B dies 2/b, R2). Toned, a little blundered in the striking of mainly the obverse which has some light raised die flaws, in NGC holder graded MS 63, very rare without the Rex title as King and this highly preserved, currently the joint finest graded of the denomination for this King. NGC Certification Number 5880727-004. The abbreviated Latin legends translates as on the obverse "Richard, by the Grace of God, of England and France, Duke of Aqvitanie" On the reverse as "My help cometh from the Lord." Looking at all the dies recorded by Withers and Ford in "Anglo-Gallic Coins" across the three different varieties struck of this denomination (either lis or lion in first quarter and one variety of latter without the B mintmark), there were 13 obverse dies in use of which only 5 omitted the Kingly title REX. The only Anglo-Gallic gold denominations for this reign are the Hardi d'Or and its smaller rarer demi fraction. None of the smaller Half Hardis d'Ors have an obverse die without REX.

Le Mans Mint, initial mark root both sides, Virgin Mary and Angel stand behind shields of France and England, long rayed sunburst above, AVE on scroll downwards between, hENRICVS: DEI: GRA: FRACORV: Z: AGLIE: REX, Reverse; Latin cross with h below, lis to left, lion to right within tressure of ten arcs, lis on cusps, legend with mullet stops surrounding, XPC'* VINCIT* XPC'* REGNAT* XPC'* ImPERAT, weight 3.52g (AGC 384 dies 1/b; Schneider 106-108; Elias 269; S.8164). Toned, a well centered strike, with especially good detail on the obverse root mint mark, in NGC holder graded MS 64, very rare and the finest graded example of this very rare mint. Estimated Value $5,000 - UP
NGC Certification Number 5880545-002. The Latin legends translate as on obverse "Henry by the Grace of God King of France and England" and on reverse "Christ reigns, Christ conquers, Christ commands." The mint mark root is indicative of the Le Mans Mint located about 130 miles south west of Paris.
