Peter Max. "Gramophone" or "The Grammy" Bronze, Handpainted, Signed, Limited Edition. (born 1937) Peter Max has proved one of the most enduring 20th Century artists whose impact on pop-culture cannot be overstated. Since the 1960s to the present, his paintings, illustrations and sculptures have become part of the American landscape.

Peter Max has always had an affinity for the Grammys and their signature gramophone award. He has painted countless iterations of the Grammy award in his psychedelic colors and they remain immensely popular works both on canvas and limited edition serigraphs.

In 1991, the same year Max created his cold painted his bronze Statue of Liberty and American Flag, he issued his series of the "Gramophone" or "Grammy". Clearly similar to the iconic award, Max added a halo that surrounds the horn and in his unique style, painted the entire piece in a kaleidoscope of colors. Signed "MAX" dated 1991 and clearly stamped 128/250. Mounted on a black marble plinth.

Very fun piece.

Since the 1960s to the present, his paintings, illustrations and sculptures have become part of the American landscape.

Peter Max has always been socially conscious with a great deal of his pieces, painting global political figures and capturing global events in beautifully expressive ways. In 1990 Max created "The Dove of Peace", his cold painted bronze sculpture depicting the Berlin Wall with a multi color dove perched on top of it. Signed "MAX" to front lower center and dated 1990 and clearly stamped 129/250. Mounted on a black marble plinth.

Jean-Jacques Caffieri. Bust of Madame du Barry. (French 1725-1792) Stunning French terracotta bust portrait from the 19th Century of Madame du Barry (Jeanne Bécu) the last mistress of Louis XV and Parisian sensation until court rivalry after the King's death found her eventually imprisoned for treason and sentenced to death. Her story has be portrayed ten times in films portrayed by a number of notable actresses including Theda Bera, Pola Negri, Norma Talmadge and Lucille Ball.

Terracotta Bust of Madame du Barry 19th Century, after a model by Jean-Jacques Caffieri. Inscribed clearly on verso Caffieri, bust is in superior condition, elegant and drop dead beautiful. We note only a small edge break (quarter to half inch) on back of pedestal, likely done decades ago that in no way impacts the stability or the aesthetics of this piece.

Anonymous. Two Parrots on a Branch. Beautiful vintage Austrian bronze of two parrots high atop a branch. An excellent casting and impressive detail in each of the the thick, individual feathers of the tails giving this piece far more appeal. Sculpture including marble base is 23" tall 14" deep and 9" wide and weighs 17 pounds. There are no exterior artist or foundry marks. In superior condition, this bronze was well taken care of.

Erté, Romain de Tirtoff. "LUMINAIRE". (1892-1990) Immensely popular French artist and designer whose art-deco influence could be seen in theater, film, paintings, serigraphs, bronze sculptures and light sculptures like the piece offered here.

Erté called these pieces Luminaires. This piece is a limited edition sculpture, #77 of 99 total. It is in excellent condition, with illumination in perfect working order. At present is a white light, but any color bulb works for even a more dramatic look.

19" tall (with light stand) by 17" Erté's signature is etched and edition numbered in lower right corner. Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,800

Gumery, Charles. "Fauna Playing with a Kid". French (1827-1871) original bronze cast in Rome in 1854 and stands almost 7" tall in the Fabre Museum. Miniatures cast by G. Martin Jimdin (?) in 1868. Bronze stands 21½ x7 x 4", "Gumery Rome" inscribed atop base. Sculpture is in excellent condition having a lovely patina and weighs about 7 pounds. Estimated Value $600 - 1,000
