Lot 1
1652 Massachusetts Oak Tree Shilling Noe-6 R7- NGC graded AU50. Glossy steel gray blending to darker steel in protected areas. The surfaces are very nice and the only marks are two planchet voids on the left side of the obverse (tree side). The obverse is uneven due to severe die clashmarks that are often found on this variety, but the reverse (denomination side) does not show any clashmarks. Late die state with obvious die rust and cracks on the reverse. A very nice example of this extremely rare variety and a great opportunity for the advanced collector of this series. The weight is listed as 68.8 grains on the NGC label, and the Noe-6 attribution is also shown there. NGC population (for the type, not this rare variety) is 3 with 32 finer. Estimated Value $7,500 - UP

Lot 2
1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling Noe-1 R2 NGC graded MS65. A Large Planchet variety with Pellets beside the trunk. Frosty light steel gray. Sharply struck a bit off center to the bottom affecting the top of only one letter in the legend. The only defect is a chip out of the rim at the bottom (as struck). Clear evidence of die clashing shows at MASA, as usual for this variety. The date and legends are bold (except for some weakness on MASA thanks to the die clashing). A premium example of this very popular early colonial issue. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. NGC population 5; 4 finer: 2 in 65+, 2 in 67. Estimated Value $40,000 - UP

The surfaces are smooth and void of any marks or other defects. Sharply struck and well centered on the planchet. The brass splasher on the crown is visible but not prominent. A premium example of a variety that was called Rarity-7 by John Griffee, and that rarity has been confirmed in the new Martin reference. This is the finest example of the variety known to us. Lot 7
1783 John Chalmers Annapolis Shilling with Short Worm Breen-1011 PCGS graded XF45. Attractive glossy medium steel gray. The surfaces are smooth and the only marks are a tiny pinprick midway between the feet of the two birds and a microscopic planchet lamination near the dentils at AP in ANNAPOLIS (as struck). Nicely struck slightly off center to K-4.5. The date and legends are all strong (these shillings often come with weakly struck areas). A very nice example of this historic early American coinage. These were struck by John Chalmers, a silversmith in Annapolis, Maryland, to help alleviate the shortage of acceptable silver coins in the area. The "short worm" version is slightly more common than the "long worm" type, but both are quite rare. PCGS population 9; 7 finer: 3 in 50, 2 in 53, 2 in 55. PCGS #596. Estimated Value $7,500 - UP
