"1815" Large Cent from 1813 S-293 VF20. Very attractive glossy chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces are smooth and the only contact mark is a rim bruise at D-S on the left side of the reverse. The 3 in the date of the 1813 cent was very skillfully reshaped into a "5" but there are traces of the engraving marks still visible in that area. Expertly retoned following the alteration, and the toning looks natural. Made long ago to satisfy the demand from collectors for that very elusive "1815" large cent, which of course is the only date never struck during the US Mint's otherwise unbroken emission of large cents dated from 1793 through 1857 (PCGS # 36520) Value $500 - UP
