Russian Lacquer Box: Magnificent Portrait of Czar Nicholas II in Exquisite Detail. One of the finest lacquer boxes in the auction is from Mstera, Russia by the artist Kurghatkin. An exceptionally elaborate portrait of a young Czar Nicholas II surrounded in an oval of foliate design and filligree of spectacular gold detail. Box measures 1 x 3½ x 3¾ with sides in complimenting filligree design. Exceptional piece in perfect condition that impresses and a fine addition to any collection. Estimate Value $900 - UP

Russian Lacquer Boxes: Stunning Table and Chair Set Resplendent In Handpainted Folklore Scenes, Rare. Russian lacquer boxes remain one of the most collected crafts from Russia in the world and it is easy to see why. Every lacquer box is a mini-masterpiece of, papier mâché with exquisitely detailed painting and trims frequently reaching back to the folklore stories of Russia's history. Offered is a table and chair set and yes the chairs are boxes. The table 3½ x 4½ x 4½" with a drawer that slides out and the surface is painted with a spectacular folklore scene "Vasilisa The Beautiful". The chairs (each 4½ x 2 x 2"), "Ivan & Grey Wolf" and "Ivan & The Firebird" folklore scenes. The seats lift revealing the red lacquered box within. This set was made in the village of Palekh, Russia, very well known worldwide for their superior artisty in creating lacquer boxes. Estimate Value $600 - UP

Russian Lacquer Boxes: Outstanding Collection of Six Beautiful Boxes from Palekh, Fedoskino and Mstera Russia. Very fine collection of six (6) Russian lacquer boxes from three cities very well known for their creation of the prized jewels. The largest is from Fedoskino 1½ x 6 x 3" with a farm girl taking a welcome break in the fields, a basket of fruit at her feet and a sickle to her side. A lovely painted scene of rural life with the sides a tartan style design. But the most beautiful box from Fedoskino is the girl in a red dress, beautifully rendered with the morning sun creating dazzling shimmer in the water and reflection to the dress, her village in the distance. Box measures 1¼ x 4 x 2¾" and is exceptional. The other four boxes also impress in their details. on e having love birds in a nest, one medium rectangular box having images of a variety of fruit suggesting a great harvest, an the small rectangular box foliate designs. Russian Lacquer Boxes: Unique Deorated Box Containing Four Volumes of Russian Folk Tales Each with Lacquered Covers + 2 More. A unique Russian lacquer box from Palekh, Russia elaborately painted with fantastic Russian folklore scenes on the lid of near surreal imagery which opens to four volumes of miniature sized books each with unique lacquered covers. The books are in Russian and English text, beautifully illustrated with gold gilt edged papers. The stories are "The Swan-Geese", "Rooster with the Crimson Comb", "The Peasant and the Bear" and "Masha and the Bear". Rectangular box is 1 x 6 x 2½" with each volume 2 x ¼ x 1¼" the covers having scenes of the story on the front and a single image on back cover - a peach, a feather, a bird and a mushroom. The set is as beautiful as it is charming. Also included is a leather tooled box with nice gilt details, and from Fedoskino a wooden lacquer box with a beautiful hand painted kitten in a basket. Note the lacquer varnish has three hair line scratches visible only at very close inspection. All fine pieces but the Storybook Box is the star. Estimate Value $500 - UP

Russian lacquer boxes remain one of the most collected crafts from Russia in the world and it is easy to see why. Every lacquer box is a mini-masterpiece of, papier mâché with exquisitely detailed painting and intiricate borders frequently reaching back to the folklore stories of Russia's history. 1.) Unusual cylindrical box 3 x 2¾ x 2¾" by the artist V. Kotov with a folklore hunt scene with hunters on horses, with dogs in pursuit of a bear. This unique box boasts remarkable detail and artistry and was acquired at a gallery in Rancho Mirage. 2.) Large rectangular box 2 x 7 x 4" with a party of revelers dancing and singing a folk song,
"As soon as I go outside………" bursting with color and life in the middle of a village with especially fine attention to teh border art and landscapes. 3.) small rectangular box of newlyweds. 4.) bombe shaped miniature lidded box with folkloric scenes of remarkable detail purchased in Juneau, Alaska. Russian Laquer Boxes: Four Unsual Pieces all from Palekh, Russia. Russian lacquer boxes remain one of the most collected crafts from Russia in the world and it is easy to see why. Every lacquer box is a mini-masterpiece of, papier mâché with exquisitely detailed painting and intricate borders frequently reaching back to the folklore stories of Russia's history. This lot has some especially fine pieces and they are as follows: 1.) Large lidded oval shaped box with magnificently painted scenes of a fairytale story of ships at sea, glorious castles, hunters, horsemen, forests and ultimately a celebration completely surrounding the box and painted lid. 3 x 4¼ x 3¼" and exceptional in every way. 2.) Silver gilt box 2 x 2½ x 2" of magnificently hand fashioned filigree with four different panels surrounding the box of musicians and festive celebration with the top an idyllic courtship scene. Inside of box is lined in blue velvet and quite lovely. 3.) A rectangular box (1 x 2½ x 2") in red lacquer instead of the more common black, boasting horses pulling of some kind of harvest. 4.) Miniature bombe shaped box 1¼ x 1 x 1" with all four sides completely surrounded by a quite colorfully painted traditional folklore story with a maiden sitting under a tree on the lid. Three Exquisite Russian Lacquer Boxes from Palekh and Fedoskino Russia. Russian lacquer boxes remain one of the most collected crafts from Russia in the world and it is easy to see why. Every lacquer box is a mini-masterpiece of, papier mâché with exquisitely detailed painting and intricate borders frequently reaching back to the folklore stories of Russia's history. In the offer are three wonderful Russian lacquer boxes all acquired at galleries in Alaska. 1.) The smallest box is the most extraordinary 2 x 2 x 1½" purchased in Sitka and hand made in Palekh, Russia in 1991 boasting stunning details and images on lid and all four sides. 2.) The largest rectangular box is 2½ x 4 x 2¼ is also from Palekh, Russia with similar images on both sides of horse drawn carriage, similar floral motifs on both short sides and a wedding scene on lid. 3.) Is from Fedoskino a beautifully rendered female in a a long dress executed in mother of pearl and fine handpainted castle scene near a sea with sailboats on the lid. All are in excellent condition with only sticker remnants on bottom of largest box that noted where made. Estimate Value $500 - UP

A lot of three exceptionally fine boxes two quite unusual. 1.) From Palekh, Russia and acquired in a gallery in Los Angeles, a boxed lid atop a box base. In other words, the 5 sided rectangular box which boasts exceptional artistry detailing Russian folklore is actually a sealed lacquer box which acts as a lid to the base, an actual box, with exceptional filigree design surrounding all four sides. 3 x 3½ x 2". 2.) From Fedoskino an miniature igloo shaped lacquer and mother of pearl box with beautifully painted winter landscapes and village. 3.) The last is a small lidded, bombe shaped box from Palekh and acquired at a gallery in Juneau, Alaska 1 x 1½ x 1". All in excellent condition. Estimate Value $500 - UP

Lacquer box is signed by the artist and dated 1967. 2½ x 6 x 4¼". Very minor evidence of handling. One fleabite on steps of theatre and chip on base at rear of box.
