Lot 1405
1807. PCGS graded AU-53. Nice golden toning. This is one of the most challenging type coins to obtain in any grade, especially for a series of coins struck from 1796 through 1807. All the mintages were tiny, with this 1807 the most prolific with a modest 6,812 pieces struck. From that perhaps 250 to 350 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report. Pop 22; 75 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7656) Estimate Value $13,000 - 14,000

Lot 1406
1831. PCGS graded AU-50. Nice even gold toning on both sides. A particularly handsome example of this prized type issue. Bear in mind that virtually the entire mintage was melted during the gold price run up of the early 1830s, this economic event caused any available gold coin in circulation to be gathered up and melted for a profit. Hence only a modest number survive of this isue today. Furthermore, with a mintage of only 4,520, about 110 to 140 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report. Pop 5; 55 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7671) Estimate Value $10,000 - 11,000

Lot 1408
1839-O. NGC graded AU-58. Well struck and untoned with flashes of lively luster in the protected areas of the design. The strike is fairly sharp and the surfaces are pleasing for a briefly and gently circulated quarter eagle. Popular for the short lived type coin as well as the famed New Orleans mintmark, placed right above the date. Always in strong collector demand. Only 17,781 struck. Pop 67; 61 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 7701) Estimate Value $7,500 - 8,000

Lot 1410
1842-C. NGC graded AU-55. Lightly toned with pleasing golden russet colors. A tough date and mint to find at all, let alone this close to mint state condition. The surfaces are attractive with a few minor nicks and circulation marks that blend well into the coin. Only 6,729 struck. Pop 9; 12 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7724) Estimate Value $5,000 - UP

1842-D. PCGS graded AU-53. Natural light golden and russet hues are present. Examination will note a few minor nicks and cuts, but these blend well into the fields and devices. An elusive Dahlonega Mint coin, with a small mintage and challenging survival rate. Highly collectible at this attractive grade level. Only 4,643 struck, with under 100 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report. Pop 6; 14 finer, 8 in 55, 6 in 58. (PCGS # 7725) Estimate Value $7,000 - 7,500

Lot 1412
1848-C. NGC graded MS-62. Rich golden toning. Semi reflective obverse fields and with a much better than commonly seen strike. This date is notorious for poor strikes and precious few have any claim to mint condition. This one certainly does, with excellent surfaces, strike and luster. Tied with a small group as one of the finest seen of this issue, and a prize for the astute numismatist. Destined for an advanced Charlotte gold collection. Only 16,788 struck. Pop 5; tied for the finest examples graded at both services. (PCGS # 7750) Estimate Value $13,000 - UP

Lot 1413
1850-C. NGC graded MS-61. Mostly untoned with reflective fields. The surfaces show scatterrd light to moderate handling marks as expected for the modest, yet importantly still mint state, grade assigned. Not many exist that can claim Mint State, and here is one of the nicer ones to come down to us from a scant mintage. Only 9,148 struck. Pop 11; 3 finer, 1 in 62, 2 in 63. (PCGS # 7756) Estimate Value $9,000 - 10,000

Lot 1414
1852-O. NGC graded MS-61. Light gold toning with reflective fields. The strike is decent but as usually seen not sharp on the eagle's neck or thighs. The fields and devices show minor nicks from handling, but still and all, this is a tough New Orleans quarter eagle to find in mint state. Pop 18; 11 finer, 7 in 62, 4 in 63. (PCGS # 7766) Estimate Value $4,200 - 4,400

1897. PCGS graded Proof 62 Cameo. Lovely rich golden toning. An important and comparatively affordable proof gold coin. Furthermore this has the added appeal of being a Cameo example, with bold contrast between the fields and devices. A few tiny handling marks are preent, but not enough to deter the eye appeal. Well struck. Only 136 struck. Pop 6; 7 finer at PCGS in PRCA. (PCGS # 87923) Estimate Value $3,000 - 3,300

PCGS graded Proof 64. A nice untoned proof coin. This coin was struck with the all mirror style with less frost on the devices, but certainly still quite appealing. The Mint was experimenting at this time, and by 1908 gold proof issues employed the much less shiny matte proof format once the Indian style came out. Heree, the overall surfaces of this 1906 quarter eagle are bright and fresh. Only 160 struck. Pop 25; 70 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7932) Estimate Value $6,000 - 6,500

1911-D. NGC graded MS-63. The "D" mintmark is very clear. Key date to this popular series. The surfaces are clean and fresh, with one minor toning speck on the reverse attesting to the originality of this coin. Far and away the most sought after Indian quarter eagle. Scarce in all grades of mint state. Only 55,680 struck (PCGS # 7943) Estimate Value $9,000 - 9,500
