Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 452
1808 S-277 R2 F15+. At least ten points sharper but the left third of the obverse is covered with fine scratches. The rest of the planchet is choice and the toning is an attractive frosty light to medium chocolate brown. Satiny flowline luster covers the protected areas on both sides, and the reverse has the eye appeal of a choice EF40 cent. LDS, Breen state IX. The die cracks on the reverse are strong, a small chip shows inside the D in UNITED, and clearly defined rim cud breaks show at the N and ED in UNITED. Star 1 is weak due to the die failure on the reverse, the so-called 12-star die state for this variety. Estimate Value $450 - UP

1812 S-291 R2 VF20. Sharpness EF40 but the obverse is covered with microscopic roughness and the reverse is slightly rougher with a few tiny patches of verdigris. Slightly glossy chocolate brown and steel. MDS. Struck 25% off center to K-1.5 leaving significant elements of the devices off the planchet. An impressive mint error in spite of the minor roughness. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP

Lot 455
1814 S-294 R1 Crosslet 4 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Choice lustrous medium chocolate brown and steel with a subtle hint of lighter reddish chocolate brown toning in the field before the eye. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and it has outstanding eye appeal. Sharply struck MDS, Breen state II, showing die clashmarks on both sides. Struck slightly off center to K-6 leaving some of the dentils off the planchet but all of the devices are complete. A beautiful Classic Head cent; essentially flawless with just a faint hint of rub on the very highest points of the devices. Our grade is AU58+ Choice, very close to mint state, and it has solid mint state eye appeal. PCGS population 4; 1 finer in 63+ for the variety. A great type coin. The attribution is shown on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $11,000 - UP
