Shuttle ALT Program: Two Crew Signed Photos: Fred Haise and Gordon Fullerton plus Joe Engle and Richard Truly. A total of 16 ALT Flights took place, a series of taxi and flight trials of the prototype shuttle, Enterprise conducted in 1977 to test the flight characteristics when mated atop the modified 747 as well as on its own. There were two crews of two men. Crew 1, Fred Haise (also of Apollo 13) and Gordon Fullerton and Crew 2, Joe Engle and Richard Truly. Offered are two inscribed and signed 8 x 10" color photos matted to 11 x 14" both thanking a well respected Mission Control specialist and astronaut trainer. Both pieces in excellent condition. Excellent, NASA photo collection all related to 11 Shuttle Missions, virtually every photo having "For Release" information for newspapers and other publications printed on verso in blue ink. 61 color 8 x 10's with 10 having the NASA/Johnson Space Center at top of photos printed in red. There are 57 black and white 8 x 10" photos with NASA and Headquarters Washington, D.C. in upper white margin with press information on verso. Heartfelt, hand fashioned tribute and best wishes on the retirement of an astronaut trainer and Mission Control Specialist after 30 years of service to NASA. Twenty-eight (28) signatures of astronauts including two Moonwalkers, Mission Control directors and Shuttle pilots have signed, many with inscriptions, along the mat framing a great shot of Shuttle Endeavor with modified 747 transport and F-18s. Remarkable Trove of Handwritten Documents in 9 Spiral Notebooks & 2 Diaries, 1979-1985 + Mammoth Space Shuttle Systems Notebook. One of the best collections of handwritten notations, computations, concerns, meeting notes and more in the hand of the Flight Director from 1979-1985 who enjoyed a 31 years long career at NASA. This is an extraordinary, real-time look at the day to day challenges, operations and solutions from the post AST period and the earliest years of the Shuttle Program. Collection include two hardbound diaries, one almost full the other half filling out about half the hundred pages. Also, 9 spiral notebooks of various thickness, dated from 1981 - 1985 brimming with computations, objectives, notes and operation challenges. Finally a 1978 with 9 of the months completely filled with appointments with Aug. - Oct. completely blank. Plus a 4" thick notebook of the flight director's working Shuttle Systems Handbook tabbed into 17 chapters. OV 101, Revision A dated April 8, 1977. STS-1 Shuttle Columbia: First Mission in Space - Flown Flag & Two Signed Photos by John Young (Moonwalker, Apollo 16) and Bob Crippin. The first Shuttle flight STS-1 ferried only a two man crew, John Young (who also walked the Moon on Apollo 16) and Bob Crippin (5 Shuttle missions). This lot consists of four items 1.) A flown US flag aboard STS-1 mounted on a presentation certificate to a Mission Control specialist and trainer. 2.) Young and Crippen signed on mat a spectacular Shuttle launch photo 3.) A Young and Crippen signed photo of Columbia landing. (Both images are 9½ x 7" and mounted on mat boards 14 x 11" with the astronauts both signing in black felt tip Flair. 4.) Also included a NASA published, 32 page color brochure inscribed to the same Mission Control specialist and astronaut trainer on the cover by "John Young, Apollo 16". Full File Box Regarding Early Space Shuttle Materials Especially STS-1 and STS-2. Also Commission Reports on The Challenger Disaster. A full file box of press materials, briefings, 18 + files, some manuals and sizable documents from the early research of solid rocket booster, to ALT Flight Rules to early Shuttle Flights especially the first two. There are a lot of divisions at NASA represented here but all pertinent to the flight director for his files and review. Also included is a copy of the Report To The President: Implementation of the Recommendations of the Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster published by NASA in June, 1987. Also included is NASA departmental assessment dated May 22, 1987 review every aspect of the disaster. Also included two much shorter summary publications for each report. Unique, Heartfelt, Presentation to A Flight Director from NASA and White Sands Test Facility From Test Material. To a beloved, well respected flight director Brock "Randy" Stone whose career spanned 30+ years, a unique presentation from the employees of NASA at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center as well as the employees of the White Sands Test Facility in recognition of his"knowledge, guidance and management style that enhanced the quality of work and the quality of life of those who had the privilige of working with you". Plaque is made of polished aluminum with epoxied sand/gypsum inset creating a near square tile with the presentation panel centered in the matrix. "The Orbiter silhouette was laser-cut from the Columbian nozzle of a prototype Orbital Maneuvering Engine for the Space Shuttle which was tested at White Sands. The Orbiter approach on gypsum signifies the STS-3 landing on March 30,1982 at White Sands Space Harbor." Plaque is 11½ x 10 x ¾" a scatterd scratch or two but otherwise in excellent conditon and likely one of a kind. Estimate Value $500 - UP

From 1983, NASA and the Kennedy Space Center in coopertion with the US Postal Service issued two commemoratives in August of 1981. First the $9.35 Special Stamp First Day of Issue cancelled August 12, Kennedy Space Center for Express Mail for items up to two pounds. Tile is 6 x 6 x 1½" inches and has four sets of serial numbers imprinted in the white silica base. There is chiping (four) to the black glass-like coating. Smith (1945-1986) pilot of the Challenger and Sharon Christa McAuliffe (1948-1986) school teacher from Concorde, New Hampshire. Two individually signed covers. One a simple cover with postage canceled at Kennedy Space Center, November, 1981 with Smith signing in blue ball point in his usual small handwriting. McAuliff has signed boldly in red Flair a George C. Marshall Space Flight Center, Rockwell International Rocketry Division. cover stamped March 15, 1980. Both are in excellent condition. Flight Data File Crew Activity Plan STS 51-L For Challenger. STS-51-L Flight Data File Crew Activity Plan completed by Mission Operations Directorate. Activity Plans outline virtually every hour during the mission even detailing when to sleep and eat in order to stay on schedule in executing all the objectives. These plans were all printed on heavy card stock due to zero gravity conditions. This likely the back-up copy for Mission Control. Unfortunately the tragedy at lift off and including the loss of Christa McCauliff in teaching students via broadcast from the shuttle the objectives were never realized. Near to mint condition. Usually these manuals have rings in the pre-punched holes for easy flipping of each page but this manual was ultimately never used on the ground and filed away hence the condition. Highly prized flown Land's End rugby shirt embroidered with Columbia Spacelab D-2 from STS-55, Shuttle Columbia. Chris Hadfield, author of "An Astronauts Guide to Life on Earth" is quoted as saying this multi-mission specialist is "the embodiment of the trustworthy, loyal, courteous and brave astronaut archetype." Spectacular award presentation piece for the dedication and service of an astronaut trainer and Mission Control specialist from The Astronaut Office of NASA boasting over 40 signatures. Included are several crews from Shuttle flights including STS-110 and many ground crew. Four photos create the presentation including Atlantis' launch, the cargo doors open to reveal the truss segment for the Space Station, a great image of the Station and two crewmen walking in space.
