Rare, Fascinating Apollo 15-17 and AST A7LB Pressure Suit Fabric and Mylar Material Comps. From a NASA engineer come these two fabric and mylar comps that went into the design of the A7LB Pressure Suits for Apollo 15 through Apollo 17 (and AST). These space suits were called Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU). The EMU consisted of two parts the Pressure Suit Assembly (PSA) and Portable Life Support System (PLSS.) These suits took over three years to develop and test, with two companies stepping forward and delivering what was required for Apollo 7-14 Missions; ILC Dover and Hamilton Standard. The Apollo 11 Moon Landing made the A7L the most iconic space suit in history. But for Apollo 15, 16 and 17 a redesign of the A7L was ordered to enable greater mobility, flexibility and visibility for easier operation of the Lunar Rover (LRV). The pressure suit was then referred to as the A7LB from which these samples represent. Search A7LB pressure suit on the computer and images abound showing the myriad fabrics, layers and rubberized joints that went into the construction of this critical portion of the EMU hidden by the white outer layer most people associate with a space suit. The second sample are the 11 layers of mylar, unwoven dacron fabric, kapton film and teflon coated beta cloth for protection from thermal solar radiation and micro-meteoroids as well as samples of the outer layer of the EMU. Two outstanding and scholarly comps for collectors of space exploration and the Moon Missions. Both comps have been grometted, obviously to keep the fabrics/mylar together and in the proper order of layers. Both approximately 11 x 8" A far more comprehensive explanation from the NASA Senior Project Engineer (1961-2011) conveys with these comps. Estimate Value $1,200 - UP
