Beautiful Pair of Large, Elaborate, Sterling Silver Repousse Mantle Vases. Magnificent large pair of sterling silver repousse mantle vases. Both are a match boasting sharp and crisp high relief detailing of flowers and leaf vines flowing from top to bottom, the mouths of the vases very sharply scalloped evoking the base or sepal of a flower. Domestic scenes of a family tavern with a bagpipe playing, men drinking and smoking their pipes are featured on one side of the vases with the opposing sides having large, smoothed medallions meant for engraving which have both been left plain. There are two small medallions just above the foot of the vases with one of each pair stamped " R.C. Sterling" with no other marks. We have no idea the age of these pieces, but they have been well cared for. We do not recommend them to be filled with water, instead use a glass inset cylinder vase inside easily found. Both pieces measure 17 x 7 x 7", stand straight, and together weigh 66 troy ounces. Estimate Value $1,600 - UP
