Rare and Monumental Late 19th Century French Art Nouveau Barbotine Decorative Masterwork by Haviland Limoges. Haviland Pottery began in 1872, when Charles Haviland decided to make art pottery. Charles and his uncle Richard founded a company in 1859. Charles began decorating porcelain from Casseau Works before he started Haviland Pottery in Limoges, France. He worked with the famous artists of the day and made pottery with slip glazed decorations. Production stopped in 1885. Haviland Pottery is marked with the impressed letters H & Co which can be found on the bottom of this incredible piece. The Haviland name is now associated with fine porecelain Offered is a an exceptionally rare and monumental work of globular form with slightly flared neck and large female figural handles each seated on the shoulder. The body is a breathtaking explosion of high relief, cascading wisteria blossoms in blues, salmon, and greens surrounding the vase's base colors of skyblue and white. Overall, pot is in excellent condition with two small issues. 1.) On one of the figural handles, one tip of the lyre is missing (easily restored) and the other tip repaired. (the opposing figure in excellent condition. 2.) on the narrow, edge of the rim, three small areas of glaze chipping. Otherwise this piece has been well cared for well over 125 years. We highly recommend outside shipping to which we can recommend a superior and reasonable pack and ship company. Estimate Value $2,800 - UP
