Two Rare, 19th Century Books on Football: American Football for Schools & Colleges 1894 and University Foot-Ball Illustrated 1893. Two exceptionally rare books on very early university football from 1893 and 1894.
The rarest and most collected is the First Edition A Scientific and Practical Treatise on American Football
Press of the Lock, Case and Brainerd Company, Hartford, Conn., 1893. 275 pages Blue cloth. Condition: Near Fine. First edition. Cartouche and spine lettering bright. Very small split from spine on Table of Contents page otherwise this edition was extremely well kept. The first sentence of the preface certainly gives evidence to the age " The game of football is fast becoming the national fall sport of American youth".
Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1893. Hardbound. First Edition. University Foot-Ball Illustrated 133 pages. Illustrated with eight photographic plates (including frontis with tissue guard) of football in action plus eight portraits of contributing authors. The expert who wrote the chapter on quarterbacking was Edgar Allan Poe, a decorated quarterback at Princeton who was the grand-nephew of the poet. One of the earliest books devoted to American football, and quite scarce. Fine condition. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP

Brett Favre Signed NY Jets #4 Onfield Reebok NFL Equipment Jersey. Brett Favre, quarterback for several teams with a career that started with the Atlanta Falcons in 1991 followed by 15 years with the Green Bay Packers. In 2008 Favre played a season for the New York Jets and this jersey commemorates that year a season that begin very well but due to an injury to his bicep that was not reported, found the Jets having to pay a stiff penalty, and Favre's performance sliding. Gayle Sayers Signed Chicago Bears Football Jersey. Official (replica) Darby Sport Uniform Chicago Bears football jersey (XL/TG) with sewn numbers and letters autographed by Gale Sayers in black marker along the number on the back "Gale Sayers, Kansas Comet". Signature is bold and beautifully signed, the jersey in mint condition. Besides Sayers' formidable career, he was the youngest person inducted in the Pro Football at age 34 and most famously, his autobiography 'I Am Third" was made into the one of the most successful made for television films in history, " Brian's Song" with Sayers played by a young Billy Dee Williams.
