1907. High relief, Roman numerals, flat rim. NGC graded MS-64. A nice untoned example which offers the expected multiple strikes to bring up the incredible devices in three dimensional spendor. These majestic coins required up to seven strikes to bring up the fullness of the designs, and while a production nightmare for a modern coining facility, the results today stand as one the finest hours of the Philadelphia Mint technology. These designs were the concept of the famous scultptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens and his protege Henry Herring, who saw to this coinage in the weeks after Saint-Gaudens untimely death in August of 1907.
